Hamdeok black pork BBQ, Samchun Set and noodle soup: Jeju Samchun
In short
Jeju Samchun is a black pork BBQ restaurant in Jocheon-eup, Jeju, less than a 5-minute walk from Hamdeok Beach. In Jeju Samchun's spacious, renovated dining room, the writer ordered the Samchun Set for 3–4 people, and staff grilled the 300-hour aged, grapevine-smoked black pork, which came with gim (seaweed) wraps topped with pollock roe and sesame oil, iced yeolmu naengmyeon (young radish cold noodles) and janchi guksu (banquet noodle soup). For travelers who want an easy pork feast in a clean dining room after seeing the sea, Jeju Samchun was a satisfying meal.

How far is Jeju Samchun from Hamdeok Beach, and where do you park?
Jeju Samchun (제주삼춘) Hamdeok black pork is less than a 5-minute walk from Hamdeok Beach. The restaurant has no parking lot of its own, but you can park easily at the nearby Hamdeok Beach public parking lot and walk over in no time~
Fresh black pork is an absolute must on any Jeju trip, right?! I was looking for a place near Hamdeok Beach that grills the meat for you, and stopped by Jeju Samchun, which had just reopened after a total renovation! Seeing the emerald-green sea and then walking straight over is honestly perfect!

Jeju Samchun's renovated dining room and window seats
The whole interior has been redone, so it's spacious and clean, and the tables are spread nicely apart so nothing feels cramped! The moment you walk in, a huge, airy room just opens up in front of you!
At the very back there are window seats with a clear view outside, and they look perfect for a quiet meal~~! The view is so good~~ On the way to the restroom, they've even set out high chairs and kids' tableware, which is such a thoughtful touch~

Jeju Samchun set menus and table kiosk ordering
You order at the kiosk at each table, and the lineup is solid: the Jocha Set for 2–3 people, the Samchun Set for 3–4 people, and the hearty Harbang Set! We went with the Samchun Set.
If you want a wide variety of cuts all at once, the Harbang Set, with bone-in loin, gabrisal and hangjeongsal all showing up together, is a great pick too! It's a kiosk, so a few taps and you're done!

Side dishes, 7 sauces and pollock roe with sesame oil
Once you order, the table gets loaded until it nearly buckles: lettuce, chili peppers, seasoned cucumber, scallion salad, pickled radish wraps and white kimchi, plus Jeju Samchun's special pollock roe sesame oil and roasted laver! And there are no fewer than 7 dipping sauces: meljeot (salted fermented anchovy), Maldon salt, shiitake wasabi sauce, breadcrumbs, sokjeot (salted fermented seafood), ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste) and chili sauce.
Everything is plated prettily on individual small plates, so it feels hygienic and looks so pretty~
The 300-hour aged, grapevine-smoked black pork arrives
The black pork here is aged at low temperature for 300 hours and then smoked with grapevine wood, they say. The moment the box opens, a soft cloud of smoke and aroma rises up, and when the long-awaited meat appears your eyes can't help but go wide. What a sight!

The cute little dol hareubang (Jeju stone grandfather statue) prop next to it was so adorable I had to take photos~

Do staff grill the meat for you at Jeju Samchun?
Yes! At Jeju Samchun the staff carefully grill the black pork for you from start to finish! So easy. The cuts are thick, so grilling them yourself is really tricky, but with an expert doing it, it's so stress-free and delicious~

Once the meat is done, they slide it to the front of the grill so it's easy to eat, and explain which sauce goes best with each piece, like honey!

Samchun Set neck and pork belly: taste and best pairings
The smoky aroma soaks right into the meat, so it's bursting with juice, and even with just a little salt the savory flavor is insane~~ The neck is clean-tasting and goes down easily, while the pork belly is full of chewy skin!

My favorite was a piece of meat on roasted laver with a little pollock roe sesame oil on top!!

But still, a Korean can't beat a lettuce wrap, right?!

Iced radish cold noodles and janchi guksu with black pork
Black pork with the yeolmu naengmyeon (young radish kimchi cold noodles) is really good here too. The ice slush is crazy!!!!

The janchi guksu (banquet noodle soup) was nice and hot and delicious too. The broth is seriously well made!
Jeju Samchun Hamdeok black pork BBQ: the verdict
Old-school famous spots are tasty too, but I honestly prefer a clean place with great service like this~ In a spacious, spotless dining room, the staff grilled the smoked black pork piece by piece, and it was a thoroughly satisfying meal! If you want a hearty meat feast near Hamdeok Beach, definitely stop by Jeju Samchun!
