Late-night Busan pork belly with raw & grilled shiitake: Donnamu Jip
In short
Donnamu Jip (돈나무집) is a new single-menu Korean BBQ restaurant serving Jirisan pork belly in Daeyeon-dong, Nam-gu, Busan, on the Pukyong National University back gate street, in the space where Olympic Sashimi House (올림픽횟집) used to be. On a quiet weekend visit at 9:30 pm, the writer ordered one plate of Jirisan pork belly (₩37,000), an extra half plate and a pork kimchi stew (₩12,000). The juicy meat, grilled kimchi and shiitake mushrooms that taste great raw or grilled stood out. Donnamu Jip is worth recommending for anyone near Gyeongseongdaebugyeongdae Station who wants high-quality pork belly.

I heard a new hot spot had opened near Kyungsung and Pukyong universities, so I went straight over!
Where is Donnamu Jip and when is it open?
Donnamu Jip (돈나무집) is a pork belly restaurant at 53-1 Yongso-ro 7beon-gil, Nam-gu, Busan (Daeyeon-dong). It is open 16:00 to 24:00, with last order at 23:30, and closed every Sunday.
It sits on the street by the Pukyong National University back gate, in the spot where Olympic Raw Fish Restaurant used to be. It's close to the subway too: Exit 1 of Gyeongseongdaebugyeongdae Station is the nearest!
The big blue sign reads Donnamu Jip in large letters.

What's the vibe on a late weekend night?
We came late, at 9:30 pm on a weekend, and the other customers had already left, so it was nice and quiet! The window seats have vinyl curtains, which gives a lovely outdoor street-stall feel, and I loved that.
There's a big TV inside, so it would be a good place to come on a day with a soccer or baseball game. Tissues and paper cups are set out on the wall.

The menu is just one thing: Jirisan pork belly
The only meat on the menu is Jirisan pork belly. Don't restaurants only do a single-item menu when they're really confident?? My expectations shot up before we even ordered! We started with one plate of Jirisan pork belly.

Good to know: if you write a Naver receipt review, you get popcorn ice cream as a free treat! It would be a great way to finish the meal.
What are the basic side dishes?
First, they set a stone griddle on the burner.

Then they brought the side dishes, which were:
- Napa cabbage kimchi
- Young radish (yeolmu) kimchi
- Mukbap-style chilled acorn jelly soup (muk-sabal)
- Potato
- Salted shrimp
- Jalapeños
- Ssamjang (dipping paste)
- Lettuce wraps and greens
- Onion
Under the lettuce there are banga leaves (Korean mint), and it was my first time at a BBQ place where they come as standard, so that was fun!

The staff told us to grind the sesame seeds and dip the meat in them. They put the garlic sauce on the griddle for us.

The shiitake mushrooms came with a sesame-oil dip, and we were told we could eat them grilled or raw.

How is the Jirisan pork belly plate (₩37,000)?
One plate of Jirisan pork belly at Donnamu Jip is ₩37,000. It came out shortly after, and the meat looks gorgeous, right? Even just by eye the quality looked good, so I was even more excited.
While the meat cooked, I tucked into the muk-sabal first, and it was sweet and sour with crunchy young radish, the kind you keep reaching for!

The golden-brown meat was so juicy and tender. The fat was just right and really rich and nutty. Wow, Kyungsung has a new BBQ spot! The meat quality is so good!!

Grilled kimchi, shiitake and potato too
We grilled the kimchi that came with it too, and wow, why is the kimchi at Donnamu Jip so good?? Everyone I went with raved about it.

Shiitake grilled in pork fat, wow, the mushrooms are good too...

They said raw is good too, so I tried the shiitake raw and huh?? Eating it raw is delicious in a different way from grilled???

And the potato grilled in the meat fat is really good too!

Ordering a half plate more
It was late, so we meant to keep it light, but it was so good that we ordered an extra half plate of Jirisan pork belly. The half plate is quite a lot of meat, isn't it?? And it still looked great!

Side menu: pork kimchi stew (₩12,000)
The sides at Donnamu Jip are pork kimchi stew, banga doenjang stew, gondeure (thistle) rice, yeolmu noodle rolls and Paldo bibim noodles. We ordered the banga doenjang stew, but they were out of ingredients, so we got the pork kimchi stew (₩12,000) instead. We also ordered two bowls of instant rice!

Need I say more about the rice? It was moist yet fluffy and so good.

The pork kimchi stew is generously loaded, with plenty of meat and kimchi! I tried the broth first and wow, it's really rich. The meat was tender and the kimchi was great too!

The broth is so rich that the tofu was delicious too. The stew was so good that the rice vanished in no time!

If you're looking for a great BBQ place near Kyungsung and Pukyong universities, I recommend Donnamu Jip ˶・֊・˶
