Gwangalli brunch café, smashed avocado & margherita: Working Holiday

In short

Working Holiday Millak (워킹홀리데이앤나잇) is an ocean-view brunch café on the 7th floor of the Bada Maru building in Gwangalli, Suyeong, Busan. Looking out at the Gwangalli sea through floor-to-ceiling windows, the writer had smashed avocado piled with arugula, a margherita pizza, kiwi juice and an iced americano, and the fresh, light smashed avocado paired well with the hearty margherita pizza. For a relaxed brunch with a view of the Gwangalli sea, Working Holiday Millak is a good choice.

First photo from a visit to Working Holiday Millak, a brunch café in Gwangalli

I visited Working Holiday Millak (워킹홀리데이앤나잇), a brunch café in Gwangalli, Suyeong, Busan! When you travel to Busan, you have to go to a café with an ocean view, right? I was searching for a brunch café with a great view, and the moment I walked in I was amazed by the scenery outside the window, so let me tell you all about it haha

Where is Working Holiday Millak and what's the atmosphere like?

Working Holiday Millak is on the 7th floor of the Bada Maru building in Gwangalli. You take the elevator up to the 7th floor, open the door, and the moment you step inside

the Gwangalli sea spreads out in front of you beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows, and honestly this view alone is reason enough to come. Because it's on a high floor, the ocean looks wide open, and eating brunch while looking at the blue sea really made me feel like I was on a trip 🌊

The inside is spacious too, so the tables never felt cramped. Even so, there were a lot of guests, haha, I guess everyone knows a place with a great view. If you're going on a weekend, I'd recommend allowing some extra time!

What's on the menu at Working Holiday Millak?

As you'd expect from a brunch café, the menu was really varied. Besides brunch items like sandwiches, fish and chips and smashed avocado, there's also pasta, pizza and steak, so it works for a light brunch or a proper hearty meal.

There are desserts too, like pound cake and tiramisu, and a wide range of drinks from coffee to juice, so it seemed fine to drop in just as a café. I spent ages going back and forth over the menu haha

What we ordered

After much debate, this is what we ordered!

  • Margherita pizza
  • Smashed avocado
  • Kiwi juice
  • Iced americano

How was the smashed avocado?

The smashed avocado here is an open sandwich: a generous layer of mashed avocado on bread, topped with a heap of fresh arugula. It was the dish I was most looking forward to, and it looked so green that I felt healthier just looking at it haha

On the first bite, the smooth, nutty avocado met the bitter, fragrant arugula, so it wasn't heavy at all and tasted fresh. The arugula was really fresh and crunchy with every bite, and the avocado and bread went well together, which made it perfect for brunch. I especially recommend it if you want something light!

Does the margherita pizza go well with the smashed avocado?

Margherita pizza at Working Holiday Millak

For the pizza we went with margherita, the most classic Italian pizza. Tomato sauce, cheese and basil is a combo that never fails, haha. It sticks to the basics, which made it even better.

The tangy tomato sauce and stretchy cheese worked well together, and the basil came through subtly, so I never got tired of it until the last slice. If the smashed avocado is fresh and light, the margherita pizza is rich and filling, so ordering the two together was a great combination.

Kiwi juice and iced americano

For drinks, we ordered kiwi juice and an iced americano.

The kiwi juice was tangy and sweet, just right to drink with brunch, and the color is so pretty that it photographed beautifully against the ocean 📸

Iced americano at Working Holiday Millak

The iced americano was clean and nutty, good for cleansing the palate while eating pizza. Sipping coffee while looking at the sea was honestly so healing.

Who would I recommend Working Holiday Millak to?

  • Anyone looking for a brunch café in Gwangalli
  • Anyone who wants to eat with an ocean view
  • Anyone looking for a nice café during a trip to Busan
  • Anyone who wants variety, from brunch to pasta, pizza and steak
  • Anyone looking for a café that's great for dates or photos with friends

Wrap-up

Working Holiday Millak was a brunch café with a truly stunning view of the Gwangalli sea. Being on the 7th floor of the Bada Maru building, I could eat leisurely while looking out at the open ocean, and the menu is varied enough to cover brunch, meals and dessert all in one go.

Both the smashed avocado full of fresh arugula and the classic margherita pizza were satisfying, and above all, eating while looking at the sea made both the food and the atmosphere twice as good haha If you're visiting Gwangalli, definitely stop by Working Holiday Millak 😊
