You know those summer days when you have no appetite but still want a solid lunch? This was one of them. I was craving a cold noodle dish, so I went looking for a good lunch spot in Pangyo and ended up at Godai Kitchen Lunch Special.
It's known as a Sampyeong-dong place where you can comfortably eat alone in the office district, so I dropped in at lunchtime. Since I was eating solo, I was a little worried about the seat and the atmosphere. But the staff showed me to a nice, comfortable seat, so the first impression was already good haha

Where is Godai Kitchen Lunch Special in Pangyo?
Godai Kitchen Lunch Special is in the basement level (B1) of Samhwan Hi-Pex Building A in Pangyo. It's a Samhwan Hi-Pex favorite that lots of nearby office workers visit at lunchtime.

Is Godai Kitchen a comfortable place to eat alone in Pangyo?
I visited at 11:50 a.m. on a weekday. It wasn't even noon yet, but about 80% of the seats were already taken. You could really feel the vibe of a Pangyo lunch spot popular with office workers.

Since I was alone, I figured I might get shown to a corner or an awkward seat. Instead, the staff guided me to a nice, comfortable spot. (I was so touched...) It doesn't have that awkward feeling when you eat by yourself, so I think it works well as a solo-dining place in Pangyo.

What I ordered at Godai Kitchen: the ₩14,800 special zaru soba katsu set
I chose the "special zaru soba katsu set" (특선 자루소바 가츠정식) for ₩14,800. Godai Kitchen has a range of dishes, including soba and tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet), plus rice bowls and udon. On a hot day, I wanted a cold noodle dish and a hearty fried dish together, so I didn't overthink it and just ordered what I felt like eating.

The set came with zaru soba, a pork cutlet and basic side dishes. You get cold soba, often called pan-memil (판모밀), and a cutlet on the same tray, which makes it a filling combination when you're looking for a summer lunch in Pangyo.

How big is the special zaru soba katsu set?
For one woman eating alone, the portion was on the large side. When the food first arrived, the spread was more generous than I expected, and my first thought was that this would be a solid lunch.

If you don't normally eat much, you might get quite full. On the other hand, if you had a light breakfast or want to properly fuel up at lunch, I think you'd be very satisfied.

Cold, lightly sweet zaru soba
The zaru soba here is the pan-memil style, where you dip the noodles in a cold sauce. The sauce wasn't too salty or too sweet. It was pleasantly sweet and refreshing.

On hot days, you sometimes crave something clean and cold more than heavily seasoned food, right? It was exactly the kind of balance that's easy to eat on a day like that.
When I dipped the noodles lightly in the sauce, the cool flavor came first and a gentle sweetness lingered after. Even on a day with no appetite, I kept going back for one more bite.

Crispy, thick tonkatsu
The cutlet in the katsu set was crispy outside and quite thick. Even though the meat was thick, it wasn't tough or dry. When I bit into it, it had a soft, almost pillowy texture.
The contrast between the crispy coating and the thick meat was great, and it made the meal much more filling than the zaru soba alone. (I finished it in no time...)
How were the side dishes and staff at Godai Kitchen?
The kimchi and salad that came with it were also easy to keep eating. In a set meal, the side dishes affect how satisfying the meal is just as much as the main dishes do. The sides went well with everything, so I could eat a nicely balanced tray.

Above all, the Godai Kitchen staff were so kind that even though it was a solo lunch, I felt much more at ease and satisfied. The food matters, but I think a comfortable welcome and seating make the whole memory better haha (They were busy but still looked after me so kindly, which is why it stuck with me~)

Is there a lunchtime wait at Godai Kitchen?
When I arrived at 11:50 a.m. on a weekday, Godai Kitchen was already about 80% full, but I was shown to a seat right away with no long wait.

Still, since so many seats were taken even before noon, I'd guess it gets busier around 12. If you want a more relaxed meal, arriving a bit before the lunch peak, say between 11:30 and 11:50, seems like a good idea.

What I liked about Godai Kitchen Lunch Special
- They showed me to a comfortable seat even though I came alone.
- The zaru soba sauce was pleasantly sweet and refreshing.
- The tonkatsu was crispy, with thick, tender meat.
- The side dishes and the staff were satisfying overall.

Who Godai Kitchen is best for
- Anyone looking for a lunch spot in Pangyo that's easy to eat at alone
- Anyone with no appetite in summer who's craving cold noodles
- Anyone who finds zaru soba alone not enough and wants a hearty tonkatsu too
- Anyone who values friendly service and a comfortable seat at lunch
Verdict: a cool and filling solo lunch in Pangyo
Godai Kitchen's special zaru soba katsu set gives you something cool and something hearty in one meal. The soba sauce was lightly sweet and refreshing, and the cutlet was crispy outside with thick, tender meat. The sides matched well too, and thanks to the staff's kind service I could eat comfortably even though I came alone.

I think I'll remember it next time I'm looking for a good Sampyeong-dong restaurant or a solo-dining spot in Pangyo.
