Gwanggyo café street pizzeria by an ex-Shilla Hotel chef: The European
In short
The European Gwanggyo is a wood-fired pizza Italian restaurant on Gwanggyo Café Street in Suwon, where a chef with 10 years of experience at the Shilla Hotel in Seoul serves authentic wood-fired pizza. The writer ordered the signature basil burrata cheese pizza (27,000 won) and the truffle cream homemade gnocchi (23,000 won) and was very happy with the fluffy yet chewy dough and the thick, rich truffle cream sauce. With chandeliers across two European-style floors, The European Gwanggyo is a strong pick for both family meals and dates.

Chandeliers and a European-style interior: the atmosphere

The moment you walk into The European Gwanggyo, a huge, gorgeous luxury chandelier greets you — it's seriously pretty.

The interior, split across the first and second floors, is quite spacious and decorated with detailed European-style touches, so it genuinely felt like being at a restaurant in Europe — very romantic.

It seems like a great spot for a blind date too. Perfect for visiting as a family or on a date after a walk around Gwanggyo Lake Park.
The European Gwanggyo menu and prices

The European Gwanggyo had a variety of Italian dishes ready to go. Lots of tempting options on the menu.

- Melanzane pizza ₩27,000
- Bolognese fresh pasta lasagna ₩23,000
- Beef ragu pasta ₩22,000

But since we'd come to this famous Gwanggyo wood-fired pizza spot, we decided to try the most famous signature dishes. Our final picks were the 'signature basil burrata cheese pizza' (₩27,000) and the 'truffle cream homemade gnocchi' (₩23,000). I trusted it even more knowing that The European Gwanggyo's chef spent 10 years at the Shilla Hotel in Seoul, personally crafting authentic wood-fired pizza.
How does the signature basil burrata cheese pizza taste?

The visuals alone were great. Eating it piping hot made it even better.

The 'signature basil burrata cheese pizza' I'd been most looking forward to was authentic wood-fired pizza through and through...! Apparently it's baked at a scorching 485°C in a premium Stefano Ferrara oven, using strictly inspected oak wood. (I don't know much about it, but I could tell it was good.)

It really had that top-tier texture — crispy outside, chewy inside. The dough goes through 18 hours of fermentation and 24 hours of aging, which I think is why even the crust edge was chewy and nutty. The dough was genuinely amazing. Fluffy yet chewy. The combination of basil pesto and the whole ball of creamy burrata cheese right in the center was excellent.

How was the truffle cream homemade gnocchi?
I personally love gnocchi, so I ordered the truffle cream homemade gnocchi — and I'm glad I did. Seriously exactly the flavor I love.... The rich, thick cream sauce had deep truffle flavor running through it, and the chewy, soft texture unique to gnocchi paired perfectly with the sauce.

Dipping the gnocchi generously into the cream sauce, it paired perfectly with the wood-fired pizza too. The quality dishes made with fresh ingredients meant we ate very well. The potato was so chewy and delicious.. the sauce was amazing too.
Verdict: who should visit The European Gwanggyo?

The European Gwanggyo satisfies on every front — from the glamorous atmosphere to the flawless taste to the thoughtfully designed space. It'd be great to visit after enjoying coffee or dessert at Gwanggyo Lake Park or the Gwanggyo café street. Whether you're going for a family meal or a date with your partner, I'd recommend it either way!
