Weekday Yeonnam-dong café, choco cookie & latte: Butter & Shelter

I'm in a relaxed break between things, so I headed to Yeonnam-dong to enjoy a slow weekday. Butter & Shelter Yeonnam had so many pretty desserts that just browsing was half the fun. There are tons of cute cafés in Yeonnam-dong, but this one has great atmosphere and great taste, so I'm recommending it.

It was this exact photo that made me desperate to go. It looks like a converted house in a residential area, with a warm European feel. It's a chain, but it's adapted to the Yeonnam-dong vibe and is really pretty and charming.

Pets are allowed on the outdoor terrace! It isn't easy to find cafés you can bring a pet to, so this is a thoughtful touch.

What's the atmosphere like at Butter & Shelter Yeonnam?

From the entrance, it feels warm and vintage, like a little village in the European countryside. The terrace view is seriously pretty... If it hadn't been so hot, I would have sat outside for sure.

Waiting at Butter & Shelter Yeonnam: how was a weekday afternoon?

It's a hot spot with quite a wait on weekends, but luckily I went on a weekday afternoon, so I could take in the charm of the space much more calmly.

We ordered a cold iced americano ("aa" for short in Korean), a warm, smooth café latte, and a choco cookie as our sweet dessert.

Butter & Shelter is famous for its butter cookies, and they sell them as sets too, so they'd make a great packed-up gift. The prices are a bit high, but the baked goods and cookies are that good... !

As a proper dessert café, the showcase at Butter & Shelter Yeonnam was packed with baked goods I couldn't take my eyes off.

How do the coffee and choco cookie taste?

The iced americano at Butter & Shelter Yeonnam isn't sharply acidic; it's nutty with a heavy body, a perfect balance alongside a sweet dessert. My friend's café latte had thick, smooth milk foam and was tasty.

And the choco cookie is slightly crisp outside and packed with chocolate, so good..! Big chocolate chips are studded generously throughout, so every bite filled my mouth with rich, fudgy chocolate sweetness. It isn't cloyingly sweet; the nuttiness of the butter and the chocolate go together nicely. The americano and the cookie are honestly a perfect match.

Verdict: a Yeonnam-dong dessert café with both flavor and atmosphere

Butter & Shelter let me properly enjoy that special Yeonnam-dong feel. Good coffee and high-quality desserts made it a satisfying escape from the busy everyday grind.

The cozy space makes you want to stay a long time. Next time I definitely want to come back and try the signature butter sand and other kinds of cookies. If you're looking for a dessert café in Yeonnam-dong that nails both flavor and atmosphere, I recommend it! I had such a good time, highly recommend Butter & Shelter Yeonnam!
