Solo hangover soup at a 1-person seat in Ingye-dong: Jeju Eunhuine

In short

Jeju Eunhuine Haejangguk Suwon Ingye Branch is a hangover soup (haejangguk) restaurant in Ingye-dong, Suwon, near Suwon City Hall Station. The morning after a late night drinking with friends, the writer followed a coworker's recommendation and arrived near opening time. The writer ate alone at a partitioned solo seat, ordering the hangover soup without ox blood and stirring in all the ground garlic. With solo seats, table kiosks and fast service, Jeju Eunhuine Haejangguk Suwon Ingye Branch is a good pick for busy office workers eating alone.

First photo from the visit to Jeju Eunhuine Haejangguk Suwon Ingye Branch

I went out with friends until late yesterday, and this morning my stomach was on the verge of a total meltdown T_T I knew I couldn't function like this, so I begged for help from an assistant manager who works near my office, and he told me to go to the new Eunhuine in Ingye-dong!! Apparently it's a hot lunch spot near Suwon City Hall where office workers line up, so I ran over like it was an opening-time rush to cure my hangover. Here's my review.

Neatly kept interior of Jeju Eunhuine

When I walked in, I loved how clean, pleasant and well organized the place was!

Solo seats with partitions at Jeju Eunhuine

Maybe because the solo seats are set up so well, even at the busy peak time there were lots of people who came to eat alone without feeling self-conscious. There are partitions too, so I could eat in comfort.

Side dishes and free rice refills at Jeju Eunhuine

Basic side dishes: chili peppers, ssamjang, kkakdugi and ground garlic

The basic sides were chili peppers, ssamjang, crunchy seokbakji-style kkakdugi, and ground garlic! Kimchi flavor is life at a gukbap (soup with rice) place, and this kkakdugi was well fermented and refreshing, so good. You can help yourself to more sides at the self-service bar, and rice refills are unlimited with one order per person, so it's a great deal too!!

Hangover soup without ox blood, with all the ground garlic: how it tasted

The writer wanted something clean-tasting, so ordered the hangover soup without ox blood (seonji) and took out a bit of the seasoned chili paste. It came loaded with beef brisket and shank, bean sprouts, Haenam radish greens and glass noodles.

A bowl of hangover soup ordered without ox blood

I wanted something clean today, so I ordered the hangover soup without the ox blood. I heard that people who like it say the blood is chewy and odor-free, so it's very popular as the default too!

Hangover soup served boiling with chili paste mixed in

The soup arrives bubbling, and the smell alone was punchy and already looked delicious. The seasoned chili paste (dadaegi) is mixed in by default, so when you loosen it with a spoon it turns a spicy, vivid red. I took out a little of the chili paste too! If you don't like strong flavors, I think you could ask for it on the side~

Thinly sliced beef brisket and shank in the hangover soup

It was really generously filled: lots of thinly sliced beef brisket and shank, not tough at all, tender and perfect for slurping down.

Bean sprouts, radish greens and glass noodles in the hangover soup

There were plenty of crunchy bean sprouts, Haenam radish greens and glass noodles, so even just fishing out the solids filled me up.

Hangover soup with ground garlic stirred in

Then I put in all the ground garlic they'd given me separately and stirred it through. The garlic took the savory depth of the broth up a notch and added a sharp, zesty kick. Honestly a cheat code!!

Verdict: a solo hangover soup spot for Suwon City Hall office workers

Finishing a solo hangover meal at Jeju Eunhuine Haejangguk Suwon Ingye Branch

The food comes out super fast, so turnover is good, and with solo seats fully set up, Eunhuine's Ingye branch is a place I'd totally recommend for busy office workers eating alone!
