Salt bread bakery in Tanbang-dong, Daejeon, with matcha latte: anc.
In short
anc. Tanbang is a bakery café in Tanbang-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon, run by a master baker. The writer visited around 1 p.m. the day before the Daejeon bread festival and found the shelves nearly empty, but still tried the 2,500-won salt bread, the crispy signature salt bread, a cream cheese blueberry baguette, madeleines and a matcha latte. Thanks to its deeply buttery salt bread and a baguette as nutty as nurungji (scorched rice), anc. Tanbang is a strong pick for a Daejeon bread tour.

A Tanbang-dong bakery to stop by for the Daejeon bread festival: anc. Tanbang
anc. Tanbang (앤크 탄방점) is a bakery café at 28 Yudeung-ro 669beon-gil, 1st floor, Seo-gu, Daejeon, open 11:00 to 19:00. On the day I visited, the 2026 Daejeon bread festival was happening the very next day! So if you're coming to Daejeon for the festival, here's a bakery I really want you to stop by.
I heard a famous mukbang YouTuber visited recently too! Maybe that's why it's become even hotter lately. If you're planning a Daejeon bread pilgrimage (bbang-ji-sunrye), please make a stop here this time 💛

anc. Tanbang menu

anc. has a wide range of coffee and drinks to go with the bread, so you won't get bored!!
Will there still be bread at 1 p.m.?
anc. Tanbang opens at 11, so I figured the shelves would be fairly full around 1 p.m. But wow, the bread was totally wiped out and I was speechless 😭 I'd skipped breakfast and lunch to eat a jambon-beurre (ham and butter sandwich) today, and this is what I get?! Since I'd come all this way, I couldn't just go home empty-handed, so I carefully took in every single bit of bread that was left..

The shelves were totally empty at first, but then the owner showed up, brought bread from somewhere and filled the shelves little by little, so I took another photo.

A baguette with a look that's anything but ordinary. It had a presence unlike a regular baguette, somehow.

The chocolate baguette that was trendy for a while. These days chocolate churros seem to be rising fast. I'm not really into chocolate breads, so I just looked and walked on by haha

Still, the salt bread was such a comfort 🤎 At ₩2,500 each, I thought the price wasn't bad either.

Desserts and baked sweets from a master baker at anc.
anc. is run directly by a master baker (제과기능장), and maybe that's why they seem to put extra effort into the pastry menu. Seeing the many kinds of bread and desserts, I could feel some serious, uncommon skill ✨

The baked sweets can be prettily packaged too, so they'd make a really nice gift.
And get this: the owner graduated from Tokyo Seika pastry school! They've also won awards at various competitions, so I was really looking forward to this before I even came.

Desserts that looked almost like works of art.

The dessert prices were a little steep, but they take a lot of work and you can't easily find desserts like these, so I could accept it to some extent 🙈

They're too precious even to look at. How could you eat those
Inside anc. Tanbang and the terrace
The interior of anc. Tanbang is bright and airy overall! Floor-to-ceiling windows on every side give it an open, not-stuffy feel, so it's nice for spending time leisurely. There's a terrace outside too, so in cool weather like now it'd be really nice for getting some fresh air and soaking up the warm sun 🍀
anc. drinks: is decaf available?
I liked that anc. has plenty of drinks that go well with bread! People who don't do well with caffeine often look for decaf, and you can switch to decaf here!

At the time of my visit, if you joined the Naver receipt review event, you could get anc.'s signature salt bread for free!

Since the bread is made by someone with real expertise in baking, they seemed to care a lot about every single ingredient. A place bursting with love and care for bread 💓

I just grabbed everything that was there 😭 Seeing the shelves so empty hurt my heart a little

anc.'s generous matcha latte
Bread is best with milk, right, everybody knows that! Looking for a milk-based drink, I picked the green tea latte, and the cup was big for the price, which I loved! At atmospheric cafés the drinks are often disappointingly small, aren't they! anc. was generous, and I was satisfied.
Today's OOTD (outfit of the day) is the matcha latte look. If you like matcha lattes, you'll like this one! The typical bitterness of matcha is nowhere to be found, it's mild and sweet, so it went well with the bread! For the record, I'm a matcha latte maniac, and I think anc. does a good matcha latte.

How does anc.'s salt bread taste?
anc.'s salt bread is small, but it has deep butter flavor and a crisp bottom, worthy of a Daejeon salt bread hotspot. I started with the plain salt bread types!

The salt bread is small and precious haha It's tiny and cute.

But unlike how it looks, the taste isn't simple: the butter flavor is deep and mature! My favorite breads are pea bread and salt bread, so I'm a self-proclaimed expert! They say the life of salt bread is the butter cave (the hollow inside), but I think you can tell whether salt bread is crispy by how fried the bottom is. anc.'s salt bread fully showed what a Daejeon salt bread hotspot should be.
Not tough, soft and plain, the kind of taste you'd never get tired of no matter how much you eat. If you like salt bread, definitely grab one!!

anc.'s signature salt bread, all about the crunch
This is anc.'s signature salt bread! It looks a bit different from the salt bread you usually know, right! Think of it as salt bread that emphasizes crispiness more than the usual kind.
Rather than a fluffy bread, it's thin and slender, with a crackly texture that's its charm! I recommend it if you want to try a different kind of salt bread 👍🏻 (At the time of my visit, you could get it free by joining the Naver receipt review event!)

Cream cheese blueberry jam baguette: the nutty flavor of anc.'s baguette
It's not an ex-boyfriend's baguette, and not toast haha It's a bread with cream cheese and blueberry jam inside a baguette 🫐
Baguettes are hard to cut with a knife, by nature! So I was going to ask them to cut it, but they looked so busy, and I tried every trick to cut it myself, but it wouldn't cut, so I just picked it up whole and ate it haha

The filling tasted as expected, so no big impact, but the baguette itself was ultra nutty, just like scorched rice (nurungji)! Next time I revisit, I think I'll have a plain baguette! It's incomparably better than a franchise bakery baguette. That one baguette alone let me feel how great anc.'s level is!
Earl Grey madeleine and mugwort madeleine
- Mugwort madeleine: a madeleine with a charming, subtle mugwort scent
- Earl Grey madeleine: I couldn't really taste the Earl Grey! I wondered if I'd picked up a lemon madeleine 😭

Still, anc.'s madeleines themselves were really moist and soft, and so delicious!

Why I recommend anc. Tanbang for a Daejeon bread tour
anc., a Tanbang-dong bakery café in Daejeon, hasn't been open long and already has this many people, so I bet it'll be crazy during the bread festival.. Bread aside, anc. offers a variety of desserts that are hard to find elsewhere, so if you're serious about desserts, a visit will give you a sweet day that delights both eyes and mouth 💛 I highly recommend anc. Tanbang during the Daejeon bread festival 🙌🏻
