Daejeon department store burgers: hot honey chicken at Downtown Burger

Today I'm telling you about my trip to Downtown Burger (다운타우너), a handmade burger place in the B2 food hall of Galleria Timeworld in Dunsan-dong, Daejeon! Dunsan-dong's No.1 burger, in my book.

What's the vibe in the Galleria basement?

Downtown Burger sits in the basement food hall of Galleria department store, so it's easy to get to, and I was impressed by how clean and stylish the inside is! It's a perfect spot for a quick bite when you get hungry while shopping.

Self-serve bar and two kinds of pickles

Utensils, plates, napkins and pickles are all help-yourself at the self-serve bar! There are two kinds of pickles, original and spicy, so pick whichever you like and have them with your burger for an even more harmonious taste.

Downtown Burger's signature and what I ordered

The signature is the avocado burger, piled high with avocado, and it's the best seller. They've even done a collab with Kiri, the cream cheese brand, so if you like handmade burgers you've probably heard of Downtown Burger at least once.

Today I played it safe and ordered both the double cheese triple burger and the hot honey chicken burger! I ate way too many Thigh Burgers (Lotteria's chicken burger) as a kid, so I don't usually seek out chicken burgers, but that day I was really craving a crispy chicken patty, so I picked one for the first time in a while. 🍗

The bun is the heart of a Downtown Burger

As expected, the key to a Downtown Burger is the bun! It's covered in sesame seeds, so it looks really appetizing! The bun is super soft and moist, and it lets the ingredients inside shine naturally without getting in their way.

How does the hot honey chicken burger taste?

The hot honey chicken burger has the sweet, addictive flavor of yangnyeom chicken (Korean seasoned fried chicken) sauce! The crunch and tang of the cabbage meant my mouth never got bored, and I enjoyed it to the very end! If you like chicken burgers, everyone will like this one.

How does the double beef burger taste?

This is the most basic, textbook style of burger. No single ingredient sticks out, yet they all work together! The overall balance is solid, so it's a double beef burger anyone can enjoy without worry, with no love-it-or-hate-it divide, and you really taste the beef.

Downtown Burger just makes a good burger, so whatever you order seems to land above the baseline. There are plenty of menu items left to conquer one by one, so I plan to keep trying them!!

Eating my favorite food while watching my favorite meal-companion channel, a single guy's cooking show ❣️ The reading room (study hall) I attend is near Galleria, so I think I'll drop by without a second thought whenever I get hungry while studying.

When I can't focus, I can pop downstairs, window-shop, grab a tasty snack and clear my head, so for me it's pretty much the perfect place to take a break.
