Office supplies and business discounts in Seohae: On Saenghwal

I tagged along with my friends, a newlywed couple busy setting up their new home, to On Saenghwal (온생활). It's famous as an Incheon home goods discount store that has literally everything except what it doesn't. Think of it as the mart version of Daiso.

A food section as big as a grocery mart, right at the entrance

On Saenghwal is a two-floor home goods discount store just a 1-minute walk from Exit 4 of Seohae District Office Station. Even before you walk in, you can see heavily discounted groceries. From sandwiches to pasta to side dishes, the food selection looks almost like a full grocery mart, which makes you want to hurry inside.

Pocari Sweat at 400 won, bulk-deal jumbo eggs at 9,300 won

At the drink corner by the entrance, Pocari Sweat was ₩400. The drink section stopped Bbangul's dad, who loves cold drinks, in his tracks — caught within a single step of walking in. He'd never seen Sunkist Zero before and, as a zero-sugar drink enthusiast, had already claimed it as his.

Right as we walked in, I spotted a bulk-buy deal on wangran (large eggs) for ₩9,300 and immediately pictured our fridge at home. Whatever else is missing, eggs are non-negotiable in our house. But since we were still at the entrance, I decided to keep exploring and said a quick goodbye to the eggs for now.

First floor layout and special rates for business buyers

The first floor of On Saenghwal is packed tight with everything from accessories to food to cosmetics. Anyone looking for home goods in Seohae can find pretty much everything in one place. Since there's a special discount for business purchasing managers who visit, anyone handling admin for nearby public facilities or companies would do well to check this place out.

The school and office supply corner

Office work always needs school-style supplies. From pens to Post-its to correction tape, all the writing tools and stationery basics are here. There's apparently a special discount for civil servants, soldiers, police, firefighters, and business owners too. The prices are already cheap, and with that extra discount on top, you could end up buying things for much less than online prices.

Why the stairs up to the second floor slow you down

After browsing the first floor for over 30 minutes, we finally made it to the stairs to the second floor. Even the staircase has clothes, watches, and all sorts of electronics parts, so no newlywed couple furnishing a home, or couple planning a move, can just walk past it. We suddenly wanted to buy so much stuff that we had to remind each other to hold back on impulse buys, taking each step reluctantly.

Group-buy prices on kitchen appliances

We'd barely made it up to the second floor when kitchen appliances — blenders, frying pans, and more — grabbed our attention with group-buy super deal prices. Apparently you can get them cheaper than online. This is the kind of corner that makes you question whether there's anything you're missing at home. The frying pan coating looks a bit worn… a toaster would be nice to have… the blender's power seems a little weak… haha. There's also a section stocked with summer electronics — fans, mosquito repellents, all kinds of things. You can also buy cheap ready-to-heat food items. Back when I worked at an office, I used to stock up on simple side dishes like these for lunch, and seeing this made me think I should come back and buy in bulk before I return to work.

From hardware and faucets to discounted returned detergent

From here on, there's so much moving-related stuff that my eyes and hands couldn't keep up. Hardware, faucets, kitchenware, exercise equipment, clothing racks, lighting, dishes, detergent — you really see the strength of On Saenghwal as a dedicated home goods store. Every so often you'll find refurbished (reffer) food and detergent, which can be cheaper than the lowest online price.

At On Saenghwal's toy corner, any toy over ₩5,000 gets a 15% discount. What stops a parent in their tracks is, of course, toys. My baby Bbangul loves anything shiny or noisy — and puts everything in her mouth. Since she's been really into remote controls and phones lately, should I get her a foldable phone toy? Or since she wants to touch every dog she sees on the street, maybe a moving toy puppy? With 15% off, the list of things I want to buy her just keeps growing.
