Songdo seems to have so many places, from cafés with great atmospheres to amazing bakeries. This one is also very stylish, with a lovely atmosphere, and it's a place where you can relax comfortably.

What kind of café is Standard Square in Songdo?

Standard Square is a café on Keonbensia-daero in Songdo, and it felt like a really stylish café from the outside already. It's great as a date spot after a meal, and also for a short break with a relaxing cup of coffee.

I visited on a nice day, so the sun was shining warmly and I could enjoy the lovely weather from inside the café.

I'd always wondered where to go in Songdo, since there aren't many places, so finding a young, trendy-feeling café made today a good day!

What's on the menu at Standard Square?

The signature coffees at Standard Square are the Nuts Einspänner, Cream Latte, Black Einspänner, White Hole, Blood Orange and Cream Mocha. Besides those, there were espresso, americano, café latte, flat white, cappuccino, vanilla latte, café mocha and Einspänner.

There was a wide choice of cold brew coffee, latte, vanilla latte and bottles, plus matcha Einspänner, matcha latte, black tea, iced tea, milk tea, fruit tea, herbal tea and more.

Cookies and scoop cakes

It's not just drinks: Standard Square had quite a lot of cookies too, in all sorts of flavors.

Coffee with a cookie on the side is plenty for a little healing time of your own on a sleepy afternoon.

There was also a range of cakes: carrot scoop cake, tropical scoop cake, chocolate scoop cake, matcha scoop and triple berry. Today I ordered an iced americano, a Black Einspänner and a matcha scoop cake.

They also sell the teas and coffees served at Standard Square so you can enjoy them at home. You could try them in the café first, then buy the one that suits your taste and drink it comfortably at home.

What are the seating and facilities like at Standard Square?

Standard Square has paper cups, a water station and wet wipes so you can help yourself to water.

The space is large, so there's no worry about finding a seat. You can look out the window, eat quietly in a corner, or use the area further inside the café to drink there.

Table service with no buzzer

Standard Square starts preparing your drinks and cake as soon as you order, and there's no buzzer or anything like that; they bring it to your seat, which was convenient. At most cafés it's such a hassle to grab a seat, order, then go pick up your food, but here you just come in, order, and they bring it to your table.

How does the matcha scoop cake at Standard Square taste?

The matcha scoop cake, americano and Black Einspänner arrived. Honestly, I didn't realize at first, but after tasting them I was convinced this place is a hidden gem. They may look ordinary at first glance, you might think, but every item was delicious.

The matcha scoop cake has a deep, calm flavor based on Jeju matcha. They say a handmade matcha spread is sandwiched between the matcha sponge layers to deepen the matcha, with soft blended scoop cream stacked in layers. With Valrhona white chocolate, a gentle sweetness and the bittersweet lingering matcha kept coming through.

It's hard to put into words, but in a word it's addictive, and as you eat you notice a luxurious taste that's different from other cakes.

Every bite was delicious and the flavor was rich: you take a spoonful, taste it, and the flavor lingers in your mouth.

How were the Black Einspänner and iced americano?

The Black Einspänner at Standard Square is coffee that combines nutty soy milk with sweet handmade cream, and the cream on top was really rich. It's super smooth, and when you take a sip, the nutty soy flavor and the coffee go together very well.

The iced americano had a deep, rich flavor, and a nutty taste spread through my mouth as I drank, so I could properly enjoy an americano.

Who is Standard Square in Songdo recommended for?

The café has something like a guestbook, and it was fun reading the notes people left behind. If you're looking for a café after a meal in Songdo, I recommend it! It's also a lovely-atmosphere café that's good for unwinding in a quiet afternoon. Standard Square, thumbs up.
