Jamsil Korean BBQ dinner with mom: hanwoo samhap at Chowon Salt Grill
In short
Chowon Salt Grill (초원소금구이) is a hanwoo (Korean beef) salt-grill restaurant on Songridan-gil in Bangi-dong, near Jamsil in Songpa, Seoul. On a 5pm visit with her mom, the writer ordered the 56,000-won samhap for two (250g of brisket and specialty cuts with scallops and aged kimchi), then added 100g of salt-grilled beef for 18,000 won and brisket doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) for 8,000 won. Why I chose Chowon Salt Grill for Korean BBQ near Jamsil
With the hot weather draining my energy, I figured I needed some beef to build myself back up, so I looked up good Korean BBQ near Jamsil and found Chowon Salt Grill with great reviews! It's already a popular spot for company dinners in Bangi-dong, so I went without any hesitation.

Chowon Salt Grill, a great Korean BBQ spot near Jamsil Address: 98-7 Bangi-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul Hours Sun–Thu 16:00–24:00 Fri–Sat 16:00–01:00

Chowon Salt Grill, a popular spot in Bangi-dong near Jamsil, opens at 4pm, so you can enjoy delicious beef from a fairly early hour, haha.

I visited around 5pm, haha. There were already some customers eating, and once I settled into my seat, more older guests started coming in too.

What's in the hanwoo samhap at Chowon Salt Grill
Chowon Salt Grill, a favorite spot for company dinners in Bangi-dong, has a special menu item — the hanwoo samhap (three-way beef combo). You get to enjoy Korean beef brisket and specialty cuts together with scallops and aged kimchi as a set, and it looked amazing.

Beef, sea scallops, and aged kimchi together!! I was really looking forward to it, haha.
The specialty beef cuts come as a well-balanced mix of five types — jebichuri, toshisal, chimasal, eopjinsal, and buchaesal — with clear descriptions of each cut, which made it easy to take in at a glance.
They serve sesame oil salt dip, salt, ssamjang, scallion salad, and soy-onion sauce to go with the meat, and the soy sauce had cheongyang chili mixed in, which was exactly my style, lol. Meat can get heavy after a while, but dipping it in this sauce cuts right through the richness.

56,000-won samhap for two: how much does hanwoo cost here
This is the samhap for two that I ordered. 250g of brisket and specialty cuts, plus 100g of scallops and aged kimchi, for 56,000 won. It was kind of surprising to be able to eat hanwoo at this price!

The staff asked if it was our first visit, and then kindly explained how to eat the meat and the samhap. Super friendly, haha.
They grilled the brisket first. The grill plate is made of stone, so it seemed to stay hot longer even after it heated up.
To enjoy the brisket samhap properly, they put the scallops on right away too. They said the scallops are done once they shrink up like this.

How the brisket, scallop, and aged kimchi combo tastes
Eating the well-cooked brisket and scallops together with aged kimchi on top, the savory richness of the meat and the clean tang of the kimchi spread through my mouth together — the combo was great, haha. No greasiness at all, and I wondered if the kimchi might overpower the scallop flavor, but the scallop still held its own presence strongly.

Hanwoo brisket is expensive enough that two people can easily rack up 100,000 won, but Chowon Salt Grill, a popular Korean BBQ spot in Bangi-dong, lets you enjoy beef at great value, haha. The savory, chewy brisket releases more flavor the more you chew it. It felt perfect for a light drink or a company dinner over the grill.

The mushrooms and onions they gave us were also delicious grilled and eaten together with the meat — a perfect match!

I love scallion salad and bean sprout salad like this, and eating them with the meat, the sauce flavor was great and I didn't feel any greasiness, so I kept eating more meat.

If you're looking for a good spot for company dinners in Bangi-dong, I'd recommend Chowon Salt Grill on Songri-dan-gil, haha.

The aged kimchi tasted just like the kind my mom makes, so it was even more delicious!! They said this one isn't meant to be grilled on the pan — just eat it as is.

Grilling the five specialty cuts and adding more salt-grilled beef
After finishing the brisket, they put the beef specialty cuts on the grill. The grill plate seemed good, since the meat cooked quickly and evenly, which made it easy to keep eating as it cooked.

The texture was tender and fresh — of course a place that's doing this well in business has good-quality meat, lol.

We ate every last piece happily, then added more of the salt-grilled beef.

When you add the salt grill, you get 100g of mixed brisket and specialty cuts just like the first round, for 18,000 won. The price range makes it easy to eat without feeling burdened, haha.

Definitely add the 8,000-won brisket doenjang jjigae
After enjoying all that grilled meat, it felt incomplete without rice, so I added the brisket doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew).

The brisket doenjang jjigae is 8,000 won and comes with a bowl of rice included!!!
On top of that, the stew is really, really generous. It comes in a huge stone pot packed with brisket, tofu, and vegetables, and the broth is the real deal.... So good. Whatever else you get, if you visit Chowon Salt Grill near Jamsil, make sure to add the brisket doenjang jjigae, lol.

Beef-based doenjang jjigae can usually get greasy, but this one had none of that — the rich broth flavor was spot on, and my mom was really satisfied too, haha.
If you're looking for a great hanwoo brisket spot for Korean BBQ near Jamsil in Bangi-dong, give Chowon Salt Grill a try. Order the doenjang jjigae too and you'll leave completely full and satisfied.

On the way out after finishing our meal, they even gave us free Mentos, haha. Thanks to the kind owner, it was an even more satisfying meal.
