I went to Etrenne in person with my girlfriend. It was a weekday evening after work, and I'd been planning a date where we could slice into some rich meat and wrap up the day together, when I heard a genuine steak specialist had opened near my family home in Daegu. So, full of anticipation, I took my girlfriend's hand and went over out of curiosity.

Etrenne Jukjeon Branch is in a ground-floor unit of World Mark West End at 169 Waryong-ro, Panmaesiseol-dong, Dalseo-gu, Daegu, about 149 m from Exit 2 of Jukjeon Station, so it's easy to reach by subway. It sits right inside the shopping complex's walkways, so access from the Jukjeon Station area is surprisingly decent.

Etrenne Jukjeon Branch is open daily from 11:30 to 22:00, with a break from 15:00 to 17:00 and last order at 21:00. It sits quietly and modestly along the inner side of the complex, so the exterior is easy to walk right past, but once I opened the door the soft lighting won me over. It felt like a cozy, hidden European-style eatery with the touch of an Outback master. And when I took a peek around,

It seems the owner used to be a well-known master at an Outback-affiliated restaurant, so I trusted the place completely before even eating. The interior isn't chaotic or crowded; it's a compact, calm layout that's great for conversation, perfect for cutting into steak together and shaking off the weekday commute stress.

Etrenne set menu, prices and parking

I ordered the sirloin steak set (₩69,000) and swapped the main meat for the mammoth garlic steak (₩49,000 à la carte). The set comes with appetizer bread, a house salad, aglio olio pasta and a Bundaberg grapefruit drink. I looked over the prices and dishes on the menu on the table, scanning for a hearty dinner. Wanting some variety, I switched to the mammoth garlic steak, which supposedly has all the garlic in the world in it. The golden appetizer bread, house salad, spicy-salty aglio olio pasta and a refreshing Bundaberg grapefruit drink all arrive together, so it's a solid package and great value.

I parked on the 2nd floor of the big World Mark West End building and walked down to the 1st floor. On the way out they applied up to 4 hours of free parking, so there's plenty of time for a meal and then a cup of tea.

Is the mammoth garlic steak okay cooked well-done?

I ordered the mammoth garlic steak well-done and it wasn't tough at all; it was moist. The most touching moment of the visit was when the owner carefully asked how I wanted the steak cooked and then grilled it to a fantastic well-done.

Appetizer bread and house salad

The first thing served was the appetizer bread, a sweet garlic bread with honey dripping off it, plenty to whet the appetite. The fresh house salad had little white pieces of cheese here and there that gave a small, refreshing joy in every mouthful.

Mammoth steak piled with garlic flakes

Then the mammoth sirloin steak arrived. Even well-done, the tender meat wasn't tough and melted moistly in the mouth, and with the sweet-bitter special garlic sauce and a generous pile of crispy fried garlic flakes, the depth of flavor was really something else. Those garlic flakes melting in my mouth were insanely good.

Shrimp aglio olio and fries

The plump shrimp aglio olio pasta in the set was also blissful, with springy noodles and a rich, pungent garlic aroma. The fries on the side were just the ordinary, perfectly fine fries we all know, so no big impact there.

Drawbacks and verdict on Etrenne Jukjeon Branch

The only downside of Etrenne Jukjeon Branch is that it's tucked inside the complex, so it's hard to spot. The food quality itself is so overwhelming that my girlfriend and I kept chatting all through the meal about how, if this were on a main road, people all over Daegu would be lining up and it would cause a craze.

Finishing with the fresh, fizzy Bundaberg grapefruit to tidy up my throat made it a perfect weekday late-night meal, and thanks to the carefully made food, I'll definitely be back.

When I piled the fragrant garlic flake sauce onto a piece of meat and put it on my girlfriend's plate, her eyes went round the moment she took a bite and she looked so satisfied that the tiredness of my commute melted away in an instant.
