Hwajeong Station sushi dinner: non-fishy mackerel sushi, Min Cook

I went to eat some good sushi at Min Cook Dasima (민쿡다시마), a long-established sushi spot at Hwajeong Station and the first sushi restaurant in Goyang. Hearing it was Goyang's first, I was excited even before I arrived! A wide sushi menu, a clean space, friendly staff..! Let me tell you about my meal :)

Where is Min Cook Dasima, and where can you park?

Min Cook Dasima is close to Exit 1 of Hwajeong Station, near E-Mart, so it was easy to find. If you park at Hwajeong E-Mart right in front of the restaurant, they cover 1 hour of parking, so I could park and eat comfortably.

Goyang's first sushi restaurant, right by Hwajeong Station! The name even has "Hwajeong matjip" (Hwajeong's famous eatery) in it, which caught my eye. Goyang's first sushi restaurant... a place with this much history, I couldn't wait to see how good it would be.

Min Cook Dasima menu and prices

The special assorted sushi (특모둠초밥) is 12 pieces for ₩21,000, and the assorted special sushi (모둠 스페셜초밥) is 12 pieces for ₩32,000. The menu covers set meals, rice bowls, noodles, sushi, sashimi and lunch specials.

Atmosphere: is Min Cook Dasima good for dining solo?

The inside of Min Cook Dasima was spacious, clean and pleasant. There's a window-side bar table that's comfortable for eating alone, plus several regular tables.

I noticed a "100-year store" (a government designation for long-running businesses) certificate, which made me even more excited about the taste. The tables are spaced out comfortably, so it was easy to relax. Maybe because I came in the evening, lots of families were out for a meal. The staff were friendly too, so it was a pleasant dinner. From solo meals to family dinners, it's a good sushi spot near Hwajeong Station.

Egg porridge and soup served before the sushi

Shortly after I ordered, they brought out warm egg porridge first. It soothed my empty stomach :) They also set out a hot clear soup that goes well with sushi, along with sushi soy sauce.

What's in the 12-piece special assorted sushi?

Soon the sushi arrived. I couldn't decide what to get, so I went with the special assorted sushi, which looked like it had a nice variety.

The special assorted sushi came with salmon, tuna, white fish, fried tofu pouch (yubu), egg, futomaki (thick roll), mackerel and shrimp sushi, among others. A whole plate of tempting sushi arrived in a pretty clear dish!

They give you wasabi separately, so you can add as much as you like, which I loved! I'm a huge wasabi fan, so I piled it on.

The tuna sushi melted softly in my mouth as soon as I took a bite, rich yet clean-tasting. Excellent!

From the soft fish sushi to the nutty mackerel sushi and the sweet egg sushi, I enjoyed such fresh and varied sushi.

The best piece: non-fishy mackerel sushi

The best thing in the special assorted sushi was the mackerel sushi! Honestly it isn't a sushi I usually like, and it's one that divides people, but I tasted the nutty richness and a harmonious sea aroma filling my mouth, and it wasn't strongly fishy, so I enjoyed it.

Today I visited Min Cook Dasima, the sushi spot near Hwajeong Station. It felt like a place with real history, and I was satisfied to try such varied, fresh sushi :) If you're looking for sushi near Hwajeong Station, I recommend Min Cook Dasima!
