Wonju restaurant in Munmak for a kids' lunch: galbitang with jjusamsae

In short

Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi (신기칡냉면&쭈꾸미) is a Korean restaurant on Yeowon-ro in Munmak-eup, Wonju, Gangwon, specialising in jjukkumi (spicy baby octopus) and naengmyeon (cold noodles). On a weekday lunch during an August summer trip in Gangwon with two children, the writer ordered the jjusamsae set and galbitang (short rib soup), along with a half-frozen acorn jelly bowl and unlimited vegetable sides from the self-bar. With spicy octopus alongside milder soup dishes, Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi suits families eating out with kids.

First photo from the visit to Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi in Munmak, Wonju

A 'Wonju Munmak restaurant' we stopped at during our Gangwon-do trip — Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi!!! It's near Wonju's Sogeumsan Suspension Bridge, so Sogeumsan Suspension Bridge → Stone Creek Café → Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi makes a pretty satisfying one-day Wonju itinerary. The jjukkumi (spicy octopus) is spicy and addictive, truly delicious, and best of all they also serve soup dishes like galbitang and pork gukbap, so it's a great restaurant to visit with kids ☺️

It was our first week of August summer vacation in Gangwon-do ,,, ☀️ so hot even our photos came out hazy, is that even real ,,,,!?!? The restaurant was bigger than I expected!!! Even though we visited on a weekday lunch, there were quite a lot of customers 👏

Parking and dining room: does Singi work for groups and families?

Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi has a large open-lot parking space right in front, so parking is easy. Since it's a big lot, I'd recommend this place if you're looking for a group restaurant for a Wonju group trip!!!

Large open-lot parking space in front of the restaurant
Spacious restaurant interior with many tables
Clean, well-arranged hall seating
Family seating with baby chairs set up

There were so many customers that I waited until we were leaving to take photos haha. The inside was spacious with lots of tables, and it was cool inside with a clean first impression. It seemed like a good place for big families to come together, and an interior that's hard to dislike! There were also plenty of baby chairs ready.

Menu and what we ordered: jjusamsae set and galbitang

The naengmyeon, Singi's main menu, comes in a lot of varieties. Mul naengmyeon, bibim naengmyeon, mul-bibim naengmyeon, codari mul naengmyeon,,, and it was unique that they even had a kids' naengmyeon 👏👶 With jjukkumi, gukbap dishes, sides, and dumplings too, there was plenty to eat even with kids along, which I liked. Since we were craving jjukkumi and pork belly, we picked the jjusamsae set!!!

Seeing the photo of jjukkumi on the table, there was no way I wasn't ordering it ,,, haha. Along with the jjusamsae set, since we had two kids with us who love soup, we also ordered galbitang 😊

Cold barley tea placed on the table

Cold barley tea, gotta love it ,,, !!! It's a small touch of thoughtfulness, but I really love restaurants like this.

Side dishes for the jjukkumi, including flying fish roe and pickled radish
A spread of banchan: perilla leaves, bean sprouts, radish salad, and radish strips
Vegetable side dishes brought from the self-bar

Half-frozen acorn jelly bowl and the self-bar side dishes

A dotorimuk-saabal (acorn jelly bowl) full of chilled ice ,,, sweet and tangy, genuinely delicious, and the sides to go with the jjukkumi ,,, can you see how generous the portions were!! They were even more generous with the flying fish roe sauce, pickled radish, and savory mayo sauce. Perilla leaves, bean sprouts, radish salad ,,, radish strips ,,, all of them were banchan (side dishes) that paired well with the jjukkumi. The vegetables felt fresh and crisp, and you can take as much as you want from the self-bar. The roasted seaweed flakes were also great for the kids' side dish!!!

How did the jjusamsae set taste?

Today's main dish arrives!!!! The jjusamsae set ,,, made my mouth water instantly, so good haha. The portion was generous, plenty for mixing it all together and still having leftovers. I was craving spicy sauce and this one really,,, ㅠㅠ was a total hit. I ate two bowls of rice. I followed the tips for eating it deliciously and dug in properly! 🙂

The galbitang the kids ate

Galbitang for the kids!!! The portion was generous and the meat inside was pretty substantial too haha. I cut up the lean meat and gave it to the kids, and they ate it well. Mixing rice into the broth for them made it easy, and they ate it up. Wonju Munmak restaurant,,, approved!!! If you're planning a Wonju trip with kids, stop by Singi Arrowroot Naengmyeon & Jjukkumi, feed the kids, and be sure to try the delicious jjukkumi too.
