Wonju Korean BBQ: 1kg whole aged pig set and gabrisal at Hanmaeum

Today I visited Hanmaeum Jeongyuk Sikdang Wonju Enterprise City Branch (한마음정육식당), known as a go-to spot in Wonju Enterprise City. I heard it's a place you can't skip when talking pork belly here, so I went to see for myself. And as you'd expect from a popular place, there were so many customers :)

What is Hanmaeum Jeongyuk Sikdang in Wonju Enterprise City like inside?

This BBQ restaurant has a spacious, pleasant hall plus separate private rooms. I could also see an area on one side where the meat is aged. With dedicated rooms, the layout works well for group gatherings or family meals.

Dining with kids: the CCTV playroom

There's a playroom, and you can watch the kids playing in real time on CCTV. Honestly, this playroom was the thing that stood out most here. It's reassuring while you eat. I think it's hard to beat for families with children!

Which cuts come in the 1kg aged whole pig set?

The whole aged pig set is 1kg made up of five cuts: pork belly, five-layer pork belly (ogyeopsal), neck, jowl and gabrisal (the meat at the pork rib-end of the loin). Ordering was easy by tablet, and out of the many beef and pork options, I settled on the whole aged pig.

The whole aged pig arrived, and at 1kg the portion is really generous, right? Each cut tastes different, so comparing them is part of the fun.

And since it's a butcher-style restaurant, the meat quality seems really good. Bright pink, decently marbled, and the quality is solid.

Which of the five pork cuts tasted best?

Of the five, the one that impressed me most personally was the gabrisal, tender and nutty. Because it's aged meat, the color looked different the moment it hit the grill. Mushrooms and pineapple come as standard too, which is nice! I started with the neck, which turned golden and crisp outside while staying juicy inside.

• Five-layer pork belly: the skin side is chewier, and the nutty flavor builds the more you chew.
• Neck: the grain of the meat was clear, with a definite satisfying bite.
• Jowl: its signature chewy texture with a clean aftertaste.
• Gabrisal: tender and nutty, the most impressive of the five for me.

Being aged, the meat has no gamey smell and chews softly, which feels clearly different from ordinary pork.

What side dishes come free at Hanmaeum Jeongyuk Sikdang?

The standard lineup was solid: seasoned raw crab (yangnyeom gejang), spring onion salad with jjolmyeon (chewy wheat) noodles, and doenjang (soybean paste) stew. I loved how varied the sides were.

The seasoned raw crab comes standard, and wrapping it with the meat is a really good combination. Because of the crab, I finished a bowl of rice in no time~ haha

Every standard side dish was really good quality! The spring onion salad even has a little jjolmyeon noodle mixed in, which makes it fun in a different way :)

Free doenjang stew with refills

The doenjang stew is included, and refills are possible. A proper stew with tofu and vegetables, refillable, so great value too, which made me even happier.

Is Hanmaeum worth it for aged pork BBQ in Wonju Enterprise City?

If you want to properly enjoy pork belly and aged pork in Wonju Enterprise City, Hanmaeum Jeongyuk Sikdang seems a very satisfying choice. It's good with kids, and the private rooms make it fine for group gatherings or company dinners.

We even finished with soft-serve ice cream~ haha If you're looking for a good restaurant in Wonju Enterprise City, it's worth a visit for the meat quality and atmosphere alike. I'd come back next time I'm in the area :)
