What kind of Korean BBQ restaurant is Hamdon Jeongwang Main Branch?
Hamdon Jeongwang Main Branch (함돈 정왕본점) is a Korean BBQ spot in the Jungsim Shopping District of Jeongwang-dong where staff grill the meat for you. I went for lunch with my little buddy. I was so happy with the Hamdon Baegot branch last time that this time I headed to the main branch in Jeongwang-dong.
As you'd expect from a main branch, it was really good. Even on a weekday lunch there was a wait, so this is one seriously popular pork place in Jeongwang-dong. I'd recommend it for group dinners in Jeongwang-dong too.

Where to park for Hamdon Jeongwang Main Branch
You can't park at the restaurant's building. Use the Parc parking lot (18 Jungsimsangga 1-gil) right across the street, and register 2 hours of parking when you pay ₩30,000 or more.
It used to not show up on navigation, so you had to search for Siheung Bus Terminal and look next door, but now it shows up on navigation and Naver Map. It's truly right across from the restaurant, and the lot is big and newly built, so it was super convenient.
When you visit Hamdon, you get this cute dol hareubang (Jeju stone grandfather statue), plus a look at the premium pork neck aging in the aquarium.
Inside Hamdon Jeongwang Main Branch and the weekday lunch wait
The main branch is a little bigger than the Baegot branch, and even on a weekday lunch we had to wait! It's near Seoul Tech (Korea Polytechnic University), so a lot of people come here for group dinners too.
There's also a Naver receipt review event, and unusually it's a cash giveaway, and several people at the same table can join in!
Hamdon lunch specials: menu and prices
Hamdon Jeongwang Main Branch has a wide menu, including signature items like ogyeopsal (five-layer pork belly) and samgyeopsal (pork belly).
The menu I'd recommend is the lunch meat set. You get ogyeopsal or pork neck, plus doenjang jeongol (soybean paste hot pot) and rice, a whole spread, for just ₩17,000 per person.
And the most popular one is the kimchi stew set! For ₩10,000 per person you get meaty kimchi stew, rolled omelet, rice and ramen noodles all at once. Rice and ramen noodles are unlimited refills! Most tables were eating the lunch sets, and the kimchi stew set was really popular with college students and office workers. We ordered the pork neck lunch set for 2.
What comes with the pork neck lunch set for 2?
First came 2 servings of pork neck and eggplant! Hamdon's pork is aged for 504 hours, which they say makes it moister and chewier.
The rice is Heungguk rice, and the lunch set includes a bowl of rice.
Then came minari (water dropwort) wraps and 8 side dishes that go with the meat! (One is meljeot, salted anchovy dip, which sits on the grill.) Minari is in season, so it was so fragrant.
Does Hamdon grill the meat for you?
Yes, Hamdon is a Jeongwang-dong BBQ place that grills for you. Staff do the first grilling, and you cook it further to your taste.
The pork neck is really thick, so it looked delicious just sitting there..😋 I waited impatiently for the meat to cook. Once the first grilling is done, they hand you the tongs, and I grill it a bit more myself!
How does the lunch set's doenjang hot pot taste?
The doenjang hot pot in Hamdon's lunch set is a hot pot in name only. It's more like bone soup (haejangguk) packed with pork spine bones and meat! But the broth is seriously rich and so good. It's practically a main dish, loaded with meat, and this alone is enough to polish off a bowl of rice.
Once it's cooked through, time to eat.
How does Hamdon's 504-hour aged pork neck taste?
I dipped the pork neck in Maldon salt first, and it was seriously chewy and so good! People say pork neck is dry, but Hamdon's has none of that. Even the neck is tender, moist and so delicious.
To finish, of course, mul naengmyeon (cold noodles in broth), a clean, refreshing end.

I've been to quite a few BBQ places in Jeongwang-dong, and not many are as good value and as tasty as Hamdon. It's that good. Parking is hard in Jeongwang-dong, but Hamdon's is convenient, which made it even better! If you're looking for a Jeongwang-dong BBQ place that grills for you, or a great pork belly spot, I really recommend Hamdon Jeongwang Main Branch.
