Why go back to Otters Jisan Saetgang in Gumi?

Otters Jisan Saetgang Main Branch is a two-story bakery café on Seonsan-daero in Jisan-dong, Gumi, and it's become one of my go-to spots when I want to have lunch and then just relax for a while. I tend to gravitate toward big cafés when I want to search things on my laptop or focus on writing my blog. And among all of them, the ones I actually go back to always have a reason haha. This time I visited again, and the bakery items were so good I'd honestly recommend this as one of the best bakeries in Gumi.

Otters is a Gumi bakery café brand built around a mascot modeled on the otter, a natural monument that lives in Gumi's Jisan Saetgang Park. They say the design draws on a retro 1950s American vibe, and you really can feel that quirky, retro atmosphere all over the café.

Otters is also a welcome-kids-zone, so it's a great place to bring children. The first floor has a nursing room and a diaper-changing area, and the second floor has group seating and floor seating too, so it's a solid pick for families. There's a big dedicated parking lot so parking is easy, and if you're coming for a group reservation or event, I'd recommend calling ahead.

I'd wanted to check this place out every time I passed through this part of Gumi because of the cute sign, and once I finally went, I liked it enough to come back again. Here's my review of Otters Café, a mega café in Gumi :)

Parking and entrance: a large lot just for Otters

Otters Jisan Saetgang Main Branch has its own large parking lot, so there's no need to worry about parking. It's located in Jisan-dong, Gumi, a spot that's hard to reach without a car, so having a big lot right there is a relief — it can easily fit 50-plus cars.

This is the entrance into Otters Café. It stands out even from a distance, and with all the charming little details in the interior, this Gumi café is basically a photo zone everywhere you turn.

The playful photo zones around the café

This adorable bear is Otters Café's signature — it's practically shouting "I'm a photo zone!" and it's decorated really well.

Here's what the first floor looks like as you walk in. We visited right at opening time, so we could take photos at our own pace. The tables are mostly for four, and there's plenty of space between them, which makes for a relaxed atmosphere.

Seeing the whole two-story building at once feels really open, and the ceilings are high too, so it never feels cramped.

One corner of the store is nicely set up with takeout supplies, and Otters' own color shows through everywhere, starting right from the entrance.

You can get on the Wi-Fi instantly, no password needed. And the doughnut gift boxes are just so cute.

Bringing a dog to Otters: what to know

Otters Café is popular as a dog-friendly café, but there's a notice asking that pets not go into the floor-seating areas, for the hygiene and safety of children and other guests. If you're bringing a dog inside, please familiarize yourself with the government guidelines beforehand and bring a carrier or stroller out of consideration for other customers.

Receipt review event: free iced tea, doughnut or salt bread

I didn't see these last month, but there are new summer-season drinks now — pink lemon ade, Jaws Bar ade, Mango-ttaeng, and other cool fruity drinks perfect for summer. There's also a receipt review event, so make sure to participate — you get one free doughnut! Buy 3 and get 1 free too, though drinks are excluded. Full details are written up on a card in store.

Nearly 20 doughnut flavors (the crème brûlée is the pick)

Otters is a merchant partner for Gumi Love Gift Certificates, so it's easier on the wallet too. I liked the doughnuts so much on my last visit that I came back for more haha. With nearly 20 flavors, it's a serious case of decision paralysis — every one looked like something worth trying, since apparently no two flavors taste alike.

Of everything I've tried, my personal pick is the crème brûlée doughnut! Prices vary a bit by flavor, ranging from the ₩3,000s to ₩4,000s.

Where to take the best photos inside Otters

With the summer menu and bingsu (shaved ice) lineup launching, there are banners set up announcing them, and Otters has added a whole new side — a dedicated photo spot. There are simple headbands and glasses you can put on for pictures, and the backdrop is so pretty that pretty much any shot turns out well here.

The bakery display and the menu board

Otters isn't just doughnuts — there's a whole spread of bakery items displayed right in the center of the store. If you come right after opening in the morning, you get to see the full lineup! Just pick a tray from the front and choose your bread.

Alongside coffee, there's matcha, chocolate, berry, iced tea, berry matcha latte, berry choco latte, green tangerine ade, yuzu ade, strawberry ade, real grapefruit ade, pink lemon ade, choco smoothie, chic black smoothie, strawberry yogurt smoothie, plain yogurt smoothie, yuzu tea, green tangerine tea, peppermint, chamomile, rooibos, and more — a genuinely wide range beyond coffee, so there's something for every taste if you're coming as a family.

There are photo zones all over Otters Café. Water and napkins are set up in a corner by the return station, and it's clearly labeled so it's easy to find.

The doughnut and dessert menu is also laid out on a banner so you can take it all in at a glance. There's a mini oven too, so if you want your bread warmed up, you can heat it as much as you like. Little banners here and there explain how to use everything, which was handy — I didn't have to keep asking staff.

A bit further from the counter, tucked in a corner, there are some cozy seats — a little dim, but the sunlight comes in nicely, so it felt just bright enough.

Nursing room and baby chairs downstairs, floor and group seating upstairs

Off to one side of the first floor there's a Nursing Room, making this a great café to bring a baby to. I opened the door carefully and found it neatly kept inside.

There are also plenty of baby chairs in different types, so you can use one without hesitation if you need it. I didn't get a photo, but there's a bakery production area off to the side where you can catch a glimpse of the baking in progress.

This is the hall you see once you go up to the second floor. I assumed it would be empty, but it turns out the first and second floors each have their own fans.

Restrooms: women's on the first floor, men's on the second

The first floor has the women's restroom and the second floor has the men's, and there's a mirror photo zone set up right at the restroom entrance too.

Why the second floor suits babies and big groups

There's floor seating that's convenient for coming with babies, and there's also a group table area big enough to comfortably seat 16.

What we ordered: Jaws Bar ade, caffe latte, hwang-cheese and chocolate doughnuts, melon cream bread

Here's everything we ordered. They give you a buzzer, and you go pick up your order when it rings. Even the plates and cups have Otters' signature character on them, so you can't help but fall for the branding haha.

With Otters' cute posters everywhere, this is a great Gumi café to bring your family and kids to — every corner of the space feels lively, true to its family-friendly reputation.

There's a tteokbokki menu along with a wide range of bakery items, so it could work well as a Gumi brunch café too. Since we came for lunch, we ordered a good variety haha.

Otters' doughnuts really don't need much explaining as a signature item at this point. Whatever flavor you get, it's always above the baseline. Chewy dough, a generous amount of cream — it never disappoints, and that's probably why so many people come back.

Otters cheese tteokbokki: the top pick this visit

If I had to pick the dish I enjoyed most, it's this tteokbokki. If you're thinking, "how good can tteokbokki really be at a café?" — you'd be wrong. It's got that addictive, thick, spicy-sweet sauce, chewy rice cakes, and savory cheese, plus fish cake, though personally I was glad there was way more rice cake than fish cake haha.

The rice cakes were genuinely chewy, and it's such good value for the price! The broth was so good I scraped the bowl clean.

Summer's new melon cream bread and the Jaws Bar ade

The new summer item, melon cream bread! I remembered eating something similarly delicious in Japan, so I picked it without hesitation — and true to its reputation as one of Gumi's best bakeries, the amount of cream inside didn't disappoint. It's soft cream that cuts smoothly, and the melon flavor didn't taste artificial at all — I personally really liked it!

The Jaws Bar ade has jelly pieces in it, which kids love, and the bubbly carbonation made it extra refreshing.

We sat facing this view, and Otters' bright, pop of color made me feel cheerful too.

I already know the bakery here is good, and whenever I eat something delicious I think of my parents, so seeing the tangjong milk bread I called my mom right away to ask if I should buy some to take home. That's how much I trust this Gumi mega café! I'd recommend Otters Café in Gumi not just for dog owners and families, but as a solid date spot too :)
