In short

Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu is a dongjuk clam kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant on Deokjeong-ro in Jangyu, Gimhae. Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu has just three dishes: dongjuk kalguksu at 9,000 won, onaksae seafood pancake at 15,000 won and dongjuk clam soup at 12,000 won. You order at the kiosk! Since I wanted to try everything, I ordered dongjuk kalguksu ₩9,000, onaksae seafood pancake ₩15,000, dongjuk clam soup ₩12,000, and rice (free)!

And a nice touch — you can adjust the amount of cheongyang chili when ordering! If you can't handle spicy food, be sure to adjust it. Also, off to one side there are utensils, pepper, and sesame salt!

Sign explaining daily-cleaned clams and homemade kimchi

Apparently they clean the dongjuk clams that come in fresh daily and make their kimchi from scratch every day! And the kimchi seasoning and all the vegetables that go in are carefully prepped every morning, which got me pretty excited.

Side dishes and the self-serve bar

After ordering, the side dishes arrived — kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), napa cabbage kimchi, and three kinds of sauce!

The napa cabbage kimchi is crunchy with great texture and it's just so good...* Exactly the kind of kimchi you want with kalguksu! And the kkakdugi tastes lightly fermented, which went really well with the dongjuk clam soup! You can tell if a place is good just from its kimchi, and this place really is...*

And if you need more side dishes, there's a self-serve bar! It's managed really cleanly and hygienically.

Kkakdugi, napa cabbage kimchi, cheongyang chilies, and all kinds of sauces are all there, so you can help yourself easily, and there are small plates, tongs, a ladle, and bowls too.

The dishes came out almost all at once — a whole table full!

Table set with kalguksu, pancake, and clam soup all together

First up, the onaksae seafood pancake! The pancake was seriously huge. It's loaded with squid, octopus, and shrimp so it feels generous, and since the pancake is thin, the bottom got completely crispy — almost like it was deep-fried!

Dipping it right into the sauce made it so good! The chewy octopus and squid, the plump shrimp, and the crispy-fried batter all had great texture — I kept reaching for more.

Dongjuk clam soup, 12,000 won, with free rice

And then the dongjuk clam soup! It comes out bubbling in a pot, nice and generous. Load it up with cheongyang chili and it'd make great drinking food...* Since the rice was free, I had it alongside, and it was really good!

The clams are packed in generously and the broth is so refreshing that even without drinking, it felt like a hangover cure!

Dongjuk kalguksu, 9,000 won: how much noodles and clams?

And then the dongjuk kalguksu! Even as a single serving, the portion was pretty generous. It's loaded with vegetables too, and comes with a little cheongyang chili built in by default — if you like it spicier, you can grab more chili from the self-serve bar!

And the noodles were so soft and tender, which I loved! With clam kalguksu, sometimes the clam amount is a bit disappointing, but here at Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu, the clams were generous even in the noodle soup!

And the kimchi was so good that I polished off two servings of it with the noodles!

The summer free ice water banner out front

On my way in, I noticed a banner hanging outside the store and got curious, so I checked it out — turns out they were running an event handing out ice water during the sweltering summer heat! It's not easy to think of things like this while running a small business, but the owner and staff were really impressive.
