Buldang-dong, Cheonan Korean BBQ: half pig with zero beer, Hanmaeum

Hi, it's today's piggy 🐷 I'm at Hanmaeum Jeonguk Sikdang (한마음정육식당) in Buldang-dong, Cheonan, for the first time in a while. It's honestly one of the best-value BBQ places, and a really good spot to eat domestic pork without overspending.

Hanmaeum Jeonguk Sikdang Cheonan Sinbuldang hours and parking

Hanmaeum Jeonguk Sikdang Cheonan Sinbuldang is at 100-2 Bulddang 26-ro, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan, on the 2nd floor (units 201, 202, 204). It's open 16:00-23:00 on weekdays and 11:30-23:00 on weekends, with a break from 16:00 to 17:00.

• Parking: There is a basement lot in the building, but it's very narrow. You can park for 3 hours in the neighboring Richard building, and there's also a public lot next to the Xi model house.
• Birthday guests: check the website to get free yukhoe (beef tartare).

I'll say it again: the basement lot under the building is really small. If you're a new driver, I recommend parking at the Richard building.

As soon as you walk in, meat is hanging there so prettily. I was honestly startled at first! But it made me feel they really use fresh meat. Delicious meat right in front of your eyes.

How big is the hall at Hanmaeum, and is there a kids' room?

The hall is seriously huge. I think it's one of the biggest in Buldang-dong. It's great for company dinners, family meals and big group gatherings. Ventilation is good, so the meat smell isn't strong either.

Plus point number one: it's so easy to come with kids. The play room is big, and you can see it on CCTV, so you don't have to worry about anything happening to them. Being able to bring the kids is a big advantage.

They say organic ice cream is given to you directly when you ask. Kids like ice cream more than rice, so feeding little ones organic ice cream seems nice too.

How do you order at Hanmaeum Jeonguk Sikdang?

Ordering is through T-order, a tablet at the table. Beef comes in half or full portions, and pork is the same. See the prices? The special thing is how cheap they are for the grams you get.

We ordered the half pig: pork belly, five-layer belly, neck, jowl and gabrisal (the meat at the pork shoulder-loin junction). I liked the variety. I definitely recommend getting the half-pig set like this.

There's also a receipt review perk. You can take a drink, pork skin, or beef-belly doenjang stew, which seems like a good deal.

Side dishes, doenjang stew and free jjolmyeon

These are the basic sides at Hanmaeum. Wow, the sides are seriously good, right? Doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) comes too. If you ask, they keep giving you more. The stew is unlimited! Other places charge for it these days, which is a problem. And there are plenty of sides, plus jjolmyeon (chewy wheat noodles).

The jjolmyeon is supposed to be a side dish, but you get a lot, like you ordered it as a side. It's tangy and tastes exactly like the jjolmyeon you all love.

How do the half pig's neck, jowl and gabrisal taste?

The half pig comes sorted by cut. Being able to enjoy a variety is great. And every piece is fresh, with really good raw meat.

Now let's eat. First I'll grill everything except the pork belly. It's time to dig into the neck, gabrisal and jowl. I love the grill marks.

The meat is cooking. I cut it to a good size. Grilled golden brown, it was so delicious.

I had to drive, so I had zero beer and zero cola, haha. What a shame 😢

Pork wraps with scallion kimchi and jjolmyeon

I can't give up eating in a wrap. The scallion kimchi (pa-kimchi) here is insanely good. I recommend adding a chili pepper too.

You know you have to try a jjolmyeon wrap too, right? The tangy noodles go so well with the meat.

Ask for the doenjang stew and you can refill it again and again. Stew and rice is a combo I'd eat even if my blood sugar spiked.

How were the pork belly and five-layer belly?

Pork belly and five-layer belly: the real highlights of the pig. The raw meat is great, as expected.

Cooked just right and eaten happily. The five-layer belly was chewy and super tasty, with an explosion of savory flavor, and every piece was so fresh that nothing was tough, which I loved. The pork belly had no gristly bits either, just a burst of juice.

There's a K-café corner, and Febreze to get rid of the BBQ smell. Head out fresh!

I visited Hanmaeum Jeonguk Sikdang in Sinbuldang! 🥩 The place is huge and the meat looked fresh, so I was satisfied. The raw meat quality is good and the set is decent for the price, so it's a good place for value BBQ. Especially with the kids' play room, it looked great for family visits.
