Cheonan chicken stew with cheese fried rice and crispy crust: Sottture
In short
Sottture Dakdoritang is a pot-lid braised chicken stew (dakbokkeumtang) restaurant in Seongjeong-dong, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan. On a long-awaited return visit, two people shared a whole-chicken stew and cheese fried rice (4,000 won), and the big chunks of chicken, generous portion, fruity sweetness, heotgae tea and ice cream were all satisfying. Sottture Dakdoritang is an easy Cheonan recommendation for anyone who weighs portion, flavor and price together.

Today's Buta🐷 went back to Sottture Dakdoritang (솥뚜레 닭도리탕) in Seongjeong-dong, Cheonan, for the first time in a while. I remembered it being delicious last time, so here I am again.

Parking around Seongjeong-dong stresses me out, so I love that Sottture Dakdoritang has its own lot.

Lunch takeout is ₩5,000 cheaper. It's a good place to eat in at lunchtime, and good for takeout too.

Sottture Dakdoritang cooks in a cauldron lid (sot-ddukkeong). I love the cauldron lid.
Is Sottture Dakdoritang good for families and group dinners?

This is the dining hall. It looks great for families, and there are tables further inside too, so a company dinner works as well 🙆

Everything is cooked to order, so it takes a little while. Good to know before you go. Calling ahead to order doesn't sound like a bad idea either.

These are the basic side dishes. I liked the pickles and the pickled onions.
What's at the self-serve corner

There are plastic gloves too, just so you know.

Aprons and broth are there as well.
Sottture Dakdoritang menu and ordering tips

We ordered one whole chicken.

An eating tip! Even if the inside of the chicken meat looks red, don't worry, you can eat it.
Be sure to write a receipt review and pick up your free kimmari (fried glass-noodle roll) and dumplings.

Ordering works like this, by kiosk.

The water is barley tea (heotgaecha), so this is a good place to come for a hangover fix too.
Free fried snacks for a receipt review

These are the fried snacks we got for the review. I bet they'll be a perfect match with the chicken stew sauce later.
Can two people finish Sottture's whole-chicken stew?

The whole-chicken stew is here. What a sight, wow~ The egg inside was cute too. It evolved into a chicken, huh? Anyway, the amount of rice cakes, vegetables and chicken was insane.
This is cute no matter when I see it.
Let me stress it once more: the portion is insanely big. Can two people really finish it all..?
It's bubbling away. The potatoes are huge and the vegetables are varied, so eating it is fun.
An egg chicken taking a bath, how adorable.
Fried snacks dipped in the sauce is the golden rule. Agree?

And every piece of meat is big. I think it's free-range native chicken, and I was surprised at how tender it was.
The drumsticks are big too, which I love. Come as a pair and you'll be seriously full 🐷
Sottture's 4,000-won cheese fried rice, down to the crispy crust

Here's the ₩4,000 cheese fried rice.

You stir-fry it yourself. Since it's a cauldron, making nurungji (crispy scorched rice) is insanely good! And there is really a lot of cheese.

Wow, I only ordered one and was shocked by how big it is. Lots of cheese, so it's really nutty and rich.
And one more plus of Sottture Dakdoritang: there's ice cream. Places like this have almost disappeared, right? Having something to cleanse the palate for the first time in ages sent me out feeling great.

I'm so full I think I'll have to fast for one meal.
Verdict: revisiting Sottture Dakdoritang in Seongjeong-dong, Cheonan
This is Sottture Dakdoritang, a chicken stew place I finally revisited. Even after so long, the taste surprised me. I think the food has a sweetness aged from fruit (just my personal opinion), which made it even better. The staff were kind, and for that price and that flavor, the value is great. We'll probably go back later for dinner and drinks. And the ice cream made it perfect.
Lots of meat and truly delicious, so I recommend it with confidence🐓
