In short
Misikga Imokase Sangmu Main Branch is a Korean restaurant in the Sangmu district of Seo-gu, Gwangju, where 30,000 won per person brings 17 dishes served course by course. On a weekday evening with her boyfriend, the writer worked through makhoe (raw fish tossed in soybean powder), grilled Yeonggwang gulbi (dried croaker), braised pomfret, samhap bossam, beef yukjeon and spicy octopus cheese fried rice, finishing with injeolmi snow ice. I stuffed myself silly with a generously portioned, great-value dinner set at Misikga Imokase~~~ The dishes just kept coming, so I got to try a huge variety, and there was even patbingsu (red bean shaved ice) and fruit for dessert!!! It's perfect for gatherings or work dinners too — there were tons of office workers having a drink, and it's great for groups. Let me introduce Sangmu district's local favorite dinner spot, "Misikga Imokase"!
Where is Misikga Imokase Sangmu Main Branch, and how big is it?
Misikga Imokase Sangmu Main Branch is a Korean set-menu restaurant at 114 Sangmupyeonghwa-ro, Seo-gu, Gwangju, 1st floor. There are fully equipped annex buildings on both sides of the main building. With a spacious hall and private rooms, it's perfect for any kind of gathering or group dinner. Great for chatting away while eating something delicious!

What are the 17 dishes in the Misikga Imokase table setting?
The Misikga table setting includes 17 dishes: samhap bossam (skate, pork belly, and kimchi combo), beef yukjeon (pan-fried beef), soybean powder raw fish wrapped in perilla leaves, Korean beef yukhoe (raw beef), spicy octopus, grilled Yeonggwang gulbi (dried yellow croaker), holiday japchae, mountain valley acorn jelly salad, hwangtae haejangguk (dried pollack hangover soup), braised pomfret, kimchi jeon, sunny-side-up eggs with perilla oil, hangover ramyeon, cheese fried rice, and fruit, pumpkin injeolmi, and injeolmi snow ice for dessert. It felt like a proper hanjeongsik (Korean full-course meal) with all the variety, and it's great for drinking too.

I ate in the main building, and there were plenty of office workers having a drink after work on a weekday evening, as well as families out for dinner! It has that local-favorite vibe with a bit of a lively, buzzing atmosphere — great for enjoying together.

Makhoe, grilled Yeonggwang gulbi and hangover soup
The dishes come out one after another in sequence, so you don't have to wait — you just eat and clear the plates, taking your time to try everything. They say you absolutely must mix the soybean powder raw fish and wrap it in perilla leaves! The grilled Yeonggwang gulbi was so good I neatly picked every bit of meat off the bone~

A big chunky potato came out too~ You can eat it as a carb substitute instead of rice.

The hwangtae haejangguk broth is refreshing, and it's delicious eaten together with the bean sprouts and tofu~

Braised pomfret and samhap bossam: the fish-deboning course
The braised pomfret and samhap bossam came out. I'd been wanting skate, so eating the skate, aged kimchi, and pork belly together was seriously delicious, mouth completely full of flavor. The braised pomfret's seasoning is intense, and since there's no rice, I was hesitant at first, but it actually pairs really well with the samhap bossam — and picking the meat off little by little, it's not overpowering at all so you just keep reaching for more~ Thanks to my boyfriend deboning the pomfret for me, I got to enjoy it in comfort!!!

This man who's got a bone to pick with fish, hahahaha, it's so funny that he deboned it for me so I couldn't tease him anymore, and now the braised pomfret has become a fun memory?!

Beef yukjeon, spicy octopus cheese fried rice and hangover ramyeon
The yukjeon is really filling too~ It's cut into bite-sized pieces, and eating it with the scallion shreds, it's slightly spicy with really great texture!
Octopus comes out too, and apparently it's spicy fresh octopus! They said it's run by the Duam-dong spicy octopus place, and I feel like I might have been there before~?~?~? As expected, Koreans run on rice power, so eating it together with rice was hearty and satisfying. The cheese stretches out in long strings, the seasoning is delicious, and the fried rice was great too — my boyfriend really dug in~
Ramyeon comes out too, which is perfect as a drinking snack for anyone having alcohol~

Dessert: injeolmi snow ice and fresh fruit
For dessert, shaved ice, injeolmi (sweet rice cake) and fruit came out — I made it into a fruit bingsu and it was sweet and perfect for cleansing the palate! My boyfriend cut up the injeolmi and ate it with me~ This summer, eat hearty and cool off with shaved ice at Misikga Imokase!!!
