Gongju hanjeongsik with a garden walk and 10 side dishes: Bapkkot Hana
In short
Bapkkot Hana Pieotne (밥꽃하나피었네) is a hanjeongsik (Korean full-course set meal) restaurant on Sinwonsa-ro in Gyeryong-myeon, Gongju, Chungnam, at the foot of Gyeryongsan. After walking the wide garden, the farm path and the outdoor pavilion, the meal was a minari tteokgalbi (water celery grilled beef patty) set and a charcoal-grilled pork set, served with 10 basic side dishes made from the restaurant's own farm vegetables, plus gangdoenjang (thick soybean paste), siraegi doenjang soup and seasonal greens. Mixing the greens into the gangdoenjang and the handmade tofu stood out most, and the spread suits family meals, dates and group gatherings alike.

Today I had a truly healing meal at the foot of Gyeryongsan in Gongju, Chungnam! A generous meal for both body and mind, surrounded by fresh air and the scent of flowers — that's "Bapkkot Hana Pieotne" (밥꽃하나피었네). A place where you can enjoy heartfelt Korean food in beautiful nature, with a name that's emotional from the start. Doesn't the name itself make you picture a warm bowl of rice? Haha, isn't the name so poetic and sentimental?

The garden, farm walking path and outdoor pavilion at Bapkkot Hana Pieotne
When I arrived at Bapkkot Hana Pieotne, a wide garden greeted me first. This isn't just a place to eat and leave — there's a farm, a walking path, and even an outdoor pavilion, so it's great to wander slowly before or after the meal.
The garden is spacious with a farm and walking path for a leisurely stroll before or after eating, and there's an outdoor pavilion that's nice for a cup of tea.
There was even a friendly dog by the yard — this seems like a great spot to visit with kids too!

Inside Bapkkot Hana Pieotne: seating and the private group room
It felt like a countryside house in nature — the interior was full of traditional charm, cozy and comfortable.

There's a variety of seating from group tables to couple tables, and a private group room too. It's set up like a proper, neat hanjeongsik course-style restaurant, so it seemed suitable for family meals, dates, or group gatherings!
Here's the menu for reference! We ordered the minari tteokgalbi and the charcoal-grilled pork set.

The 10 basic side dishes, made with the restaurant's farm vegetables
First, 10 basic side dishes came out — tofu kimchi, vegetable pancake, fried vegetables, salad, japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), and more, all made with vegetables grown on the farm. It felt like eating a healthy hanjeongsik meal — really fresh and delicious.
Minari tteokgalbi and charcoal-grilled pork!

How was the minari tteokgalbi (water celery grilled beef patty)?
Minari tteokgalbi — one bite and it was soft and juicy, with a subtle sweetness and a chewy texture, not overpowering at all, just full of tender juices. Thanks to the slightly sweet sauce and chewy texture, my chopsticks kept reaching for another bite — a spoon of rice, a piece of tteokgalbi, a bite of namul (seasoned vegetable side dish), together.

Eggplant and tteok stir-fry, and buchu-jeon (chive pancake)!

The handmade tofu was clean-tasting and nutty too, and every side dish was so carefully made that the whole meal felt comfortable to enjoy.

Gangdoenjang, siraegi doenjang soup and seasonal greens
Gangdoenjang, siraegi doenjang soup, seasonal side dishes — seasonal herbs, wild greens, and leafy vegetables grown on the farm change with the season and all came out as seasonal side dishes!
Mixing a bit of gangdoenjang into rice with various namul and stirring it all together... I couldn't resist. Haha. Between the savory gangdoenjang and the namul, my bowl was empty before I knew it.
The charcoal-grilled pork set: smoky aroma and sweet-savory sauce
The charcoal-grilled pork set! The pork carried a subtle smoky aroma that really woke up the appetite. The meat was tender and juicy, with a sweet and salty sauce soaked in, and it made me want rice right away.
Putting a piece of the charcoal-grilled pork on rice along with seasonal namul or wrap vegetables made it even cleaner to enjoy. Made with local farm produce, the side dishes had deep flavor and sat easily. They were kind enough to refill the side dishes too, which I appreciated — haha. I especially fell for the gangdoenjang and handmade tofu!
