Gongju Korean restaurant for a post-play meal with kids: Bapkkot Hana Pieotne

In short

Bapkkot Hana Pieotne is a Korean restaurant near Gyeryongsan in Gongju, Chungnam. After playing at the Gomagom Children’s Experience Center, we enjoyed rice, many side dishes, jjageuli doenjang, and doenjang-jjigae with our child. Verdict: a filling choice for a family day out in Gongju.

On the day we took our child on an outing to Gongju, we had a blast trying all sorts of activities together at the Gomagom Children’s Experience Center, then came here for a filling meal.

Visiting Bapkkot Hana Pieotne after an outing in Gongju

I was even more excited because this is a place that prepares wholesome meals with ingredients they grow themselves. It is a nice place to look up when you are craving Korean food during a Gongju trip, so I wanted to introduce it to anyone searching for good Korean food in Gongju, too.

The most impressive thing about Bapkkot Hana Pieotne was that it uses ingredients grown directly by the restaurant. It is not easy to prepare lots of different banchan (Korean side dishes) at home, but seeing a whole table filled with them already made me feel satisfied.

Rather than looking elaborately decorated, every dish felt neat and simply prepared. It was like eating healthy home cooking that lets the ingredients’ natural flavors shine, which suited our family visit with a child really well. Being able to taste little bits of many side dishes with rice is one of Korean food’s charms, I think.

I had not come here knowing it was a restaurant featured on TV, but it seems to have appeared on several programs because it thoughtfully prepares meals with homegrown ingredients. I got the feeling that not only families visiting with children like ours, but also people out for a trip around Gyeryongsan, come here often.

So if you happen to discover it while looking for a good Korean restaurant in Gongju, I think it is worth visiting at least once.

Once we ordered, the food began arriving one dish at a time, and the table quickly filled up. With so many side dishes, it looked abundant, and above all, seeing the table completely set made me feel truly well treated.

It is not easy to set out so many different side dishes and eat them all at once at home, is it? Maybe that is why I cannot help but feel happy when I find a Korean set meal like this while dining out. It feels like, “Today, I do not have to make the meal—I get to enjoy a properly prepared one!” 😊

When choosing a restaurant with a child, flavor matters, but it is also really important whether there is food the child can eat. In that sense, Korean dishes with rice and side dishes are relatively easy for dining out with kids.

Yul chose side dishes she could eat and had them with rice, while my husband and I tried a variety of dishes and had a satisfying meal. A Gongju trip with a child involves activities, walking, and sightseeing, so you get hungry sooner than expected. We had played so enthusiastically that day, so I think everything tasted even better.

A filling meal after an outing at Gyeryongsan

If you are planning an outing around Gyeryongsan or looking for Korean food during a Gongju trip, this kind of restaurant could be a good choice. When traveling, you walk more than usual, so sometimes you want a proper meal of rice and side dishes rather than simply grabbing something to get by. A neatly prepared Korean spread like this fills you up and lifts your mood, too.

Perhaps because there were so many namul (seasoned vegetable side dishes), the rice came in a bowl this big. I guess they want you to mix it all together, right? It is nice to mix it with the jjageuli doenjang, a thick soybean-paste stew, or doenjang-jjigae, soybean-paste soup, whichever you prefer.

We visited after enjoying plenty of activities with our child, and the whole family had a delicious meal.

Personally, I tend to prefer meals where I can eat rice with lots of different side dishes over strongly seasoned food. Bapkkot Hana Pieotne was especially impressive because it uses ingredients grown directly by the restaurant.

Faced with such a generous spread, it felt less like simply having a meal and more like being served a table thoughtfully prepared by someone. So if you prefer Korean food while searching for a good place to eat in Gongju, I think it is worth looking into.

It felt like being properly treated to a full meal

And since it has been featured on television several times, it seems like a place that would also interest anyone looking for a good Korean restaurant in Gongju. If you are looking for food around Gyeryongsan and craving a healthy, filling Korean meal—or Korean food in Gongju to visit with a child—put Bapkkot Hana Pieotne on your list.

Our family wrapped up our Gongju outing that day after playing hard with our child and filling up on a delicious meal. When traveling with a child, the best thing really is to play well, eat well, and rest well! ❤️
