Window-seat dinner at a Yangsan seafood restaurant: Deodo Gejang
In short
Deodo Gejang is a gejang (marinated crab) and seafood jang restaurant in the Tongdo food town in Habuk-myeon, Yangsan. Seated at a window table with her mother, the writer ordered two assorted jang sets at 28,000 won each and received yellow crab jang, octopus jang, shrimp jang and abalone jang with nutritious pot rice, plus blue crab stew, pork bulgogi and grilled fish as side dishes. Her mother liked the crab jang best and the writer the octopus jang, and with a large parking lot and a spotless dining room, Deodo Gejang is a place she would return to.

"I want to eat something really good with mom, it's been a while!" I wanted a dinner that felt fresh, healthy, and where you could taste the quality in every single dish — so here's where we went.

This is Deodo Gejang, near Tongdosa in Habuk-myeon, Yangsan 😊😍. I heard they had an assorted jang set where you can try yellow crab, octopus, shrimp, and abalone all at once, so I went in with high expectations. Long story short: the food was satisfying, but I also really loved how clean and spacious the restaurant was.
What the assorted jang set at Deodo Gejang looks like
Deodo Gejang's assorted jang set (모듬장 한상) comes with yellow crab, octopus, shrimp, abalone, and quail eggs all served together on one table. The moment it arrived, mom and I both went "wow~" at the same time.

From yellow crab to octopus, shrimp, abalone, and quail eggs, the table was piled high, and it looked genuinely upscale. I could see right away why they call it the premium assorted jang!

Above all, the parking lot is spacious, so I could visit without any parking stress. If you're looking for a place to eat near Tongdosa, this is worth remembering.
Easy to find right on Yangsan-daero
Deodo Gejang sits right on the main road, so it wasn't hard to find. It's located in the Tongdo Meokgeori food town, which is also home to the famous Sunji Café, so it's a great spot to eat if you're traveling toward Tongdosa. The exterior has a huge photo of the assorted jang, and just looking at it made me think "okay, I'm about to eat well today" haha.
Inside Deodo Gejang: a spotless dining room
Walking inside, mom and I kept repeating the same thing: "This place is so clean!" The interior felt really well maintained. The tables were spaced generously apart too, so there was none of that cramped feeling of being too close to the next table, and it was comfortable for a family meal and conversation.
We sat at a nice window seat, and I liked the atmosphere there too. Everything felt tidy and put-together, which put me in a good mood even before the food arrived.
Why the large menu board was easy for mom to read
Deodo Gejang's menu has large food photos and big price text, making it easy for older folks to read. The first thing mom said looking at the menu was "this menu is so easy to read!" haha.

The menu photos are big enough that you can tell exactly what each dish looks like at a glance, and the menu items and prices are printed in large text, which made it easy for older visitors to look through. Being able to see the food ahead of time made choosing so much easier! After some thought, we ordered the signature assorted jang set!

Takeout is also available, and there's a receipt review event, so make sure to check that out if it's useful for you ^^
Side dishes: blue crab stew, pork bulgogi and grilled fish
Before the main dish, Deodo Gejang serves basic side dishes that include crab hotpot, pork bulgogi, and grilled fish. Even before the main dish, the table was already pretty full.

With crab hotpot, pork bulgogi, and grilled fish all showing up, I was like, "wait, are these really just the basic sides?" The kimchi, cucumber, and bean sprout side dishes were all delicious too, so I kept picking at them instead of just waiting for the main dish.
And the rice wasn't just plain white rice — it was nutrient pot rice! When I opened the pot, there were chestnuts, sweet pumpkin, mushrooms, and even gingko nuts inside, so the rice itself was delicious on its own. Jang dishes with pot rice — do I even need to say more? Total rice thief combo haha.
What comes with the 28,000-won assorted jang set
We ordered the assorted jang set at ₩28,000 × 2, and it came with a really wide variety: yellow crab, octopus, shrimp, quail eggs, and abalone. The main event has finally arrived!

Seeing the whole table set with food, it felt less like a meal and more like a piece of art. It was luxurious yet generous, and I really felt like I was being treated well.

Maybe that's why I personally thought this menu would be perfect for taking your parents, older relatives, or someone you've always wanted to thank out for a meal.

Actually, mom has been looking for a place to take her friends for a get-together, and after seeing this assorted jang, she said she'd tell her friends about this place haha.
Is the yellow crab jang too salty?
Deodo Gejang's yellow crab jang wasn't overly salty and had no greasy aftertaste — it was clean. Honestly, mom isn't usually a big fan of gejang (marinated crab). Crab jang can sometimes be salty with a distinct greasy taste, so she doesn't eat much of it, but this time she tasted it and said it was delicious.
Deodo Gejang says they use yellow crab caught in the clean waters off Jeju, and each crab shell is cleaned by hand. Since freshness really matters for crab jang, I think that attention to detail affected the taste.

The spicy marinated crab also wasn't too spicy or overpowering, and the seasoning was just right for eating with rice. Crab jang was actually the dish mom enjoyed most that day!!
Shrimp, octopus and abalone jang: how the textures compare
Deodo Gejang's shrimp jang comes with the shell already prepped, so you just remove the head and eat — and the octopus jang had the chewiest texture of them all. The shrimp was plump too. No hassle from having to clean it yourself.

And the one I enjoyed most was the octopus jang! The octopus was so chewy that every bite had real texture to it.
The abalone was also great slurped up one by one, soft and slightly chewy. Yellow crab, octopus, shrimp, and abalone each had different textures and flavors, so it was fun picking through them one by one. If mom and I each had to pick a favorite, hers was the crab jang and mine was the octopus jang. But of course, the real conclusion is... everything was delicious! haha.
Pot rice, crab shell rice and seaweed: the best combination
My favorite combo was piling crab jang and octopus jang onto Deodo Gejang's nutrient pot rice, then mixing it into the crab shell and wrapping it in seaweed. Jang dishes really do taste best with rice.

I mixed everything nicely into the crab shell haha, then wrapped it in seaweed, and it went so well together. Bite after bite, and before I knew it, a whole bowl of rice was gone.

So the phrase "rice thief restaurant" really suited this place. At the end, there was even nurungji (scorched rice tea) to cleanse the palate! From start to finish, it felt like I properly enjoyed the whole table.
Is Deodo Gejang worth a stop near Tongdosa Temple in Yangsan?
Visiting with mom this time made me realize that beyond taste alone, eating good food in a clean, comfortable space brings a lot of satisfaction on its own.

Especially for seafood dishes like crab jang or abalone jang, freshness matters and they require prep and aging, so they're not the kind of thing you can easily make at home. For someone like me who wanted a proper meal out with mom after a long time, this was a pretty satisfying meal 💛
If you're looking for somewhere to eat near Tongdosa, or searching for good restaurants near Tongdosa in Yangsan, Deodo Gejang is worth keeping in mind. Especially for a meal with parents, a family outing, or hosting elders, the generous assorted jang set would suit the occasion well!

It could also be a good option for anyone looking for a place to take elders during the upcoming Chuseok holiday. A meal of fresh seafood jang, generously served in a clean space — mom and I were both satisfied, so I'm definitely coming back! I hope this is helpful for anyone looking for a good meal while traveling around Tongdosa or Yangsan :) If you're looking for a good crab restaurant near Tongdosa in Yangsan, or a gejang spot to take your parents to, give this one a try :) Highly recommend haha ❤️😍
