Goyang café with an August hydrangea walk and pain d'or: Baedagol

I went to Baedagol Bakery House, a bakery café in Wondang with a huge hydrangea garden, before hydrangea season wrapped up. Let's get into this detailed review of a hydrangea spot, a sunshine spot, and a bakery spot all in one~

The building, the parking lots and a garden planted from Baedagol Theme Park

This is Baedagol Bakery House, a Wondang bakery café. The clean ivory-toned exterior, with its blend of curves and straight lines, was stylish from the moment I arrived, and a wide garden stretched out right beside it.

Even the entrance path was lined with stylish pots and landscape trees, giving off a fresh feeling right away.

It turns out this Wondang café was made by remodeling a 30-year-old house and reusing plants from Baedagol Theme Park, a place I visited many times with my kids when they were little, before it closed. There were more than 10 parking spots right in front of the café, and the dedicated lot across the street had more than 40 spots.

Inside the first floor: arched walkway, melon showcase and self-serve bar

Walking into Baedagol Bakery House, a café in Ilsan, the classic white-brick arched passage caught my eye first. Beyond it were the 1st-floor seats, and the green potted plants scattered around gave the indoor space a fresh feel too.

This Wondang café is known for its tasty drinks and desserts made with seasonal fruit, and right now it's melon season — the fridge showcase was packed with very fresh-looking melons.

The self-serve bar had water, an oven for warming up bread, and even takeout bags. There were baby chairs too, so it looked great for families.

These are the 1st-floor seats at Baedagol Bakery House. Through the full glass windows, the green of the garden came right through, and the sense of openness meant there was zero stuffiness even indoors.

There were also about 3 shaded terrace seats right beside the building, where you could feel the outdoor garden even closer — I imagine those get popular too, though on the summer afternoon I visited, the cool indoor seats were more popular.

Second-floor room seats and the no-kids terrace

There were seats on the 2nd floor too, including a few room-style spaces for a more private experience. Even on a weekday, the 1st and 2nd floor indoor seats were nearly full, proof this is a real Goyang hotspot.

The 2nd floor also has outdoor terrace seating, but that area is a no-kids zone for safety reasons.

Looking down from above, the wide hydrangea garden came into full view with a cool panoramic sweep. Just looking at that gorgeous scene, with that wide-open feeling, was healing in itself~

Is the hydrangea garden still worth seeing in mid-August?

Watching from indoors was healing enough, but since I'd come to an Ilsan hydrangea spot, I had to walk through it myself and take some photos too~ After enjoying the view from the terrace, I headed down into the outdoor garden.

There were walking paths, parasols, and tables scattered through the garden — perfect for taking the photo of a lifetime in a hydrangea field.

I visited on August 13, and even though the hydrangeas were starting to fade a little under the hot sun, the white, full blooms still filled the garden, and plenty of people were busy making memories with their loved ones.

The outdoor garden stretched deeper and wider than I expected, so even with lots of visitors, it never felt crowded.

Beyond the pretty, lush hydrangea garden, Baedagol Bakery House, a Goyang café, also has a sand play area, which would make it a great spot to visit with kids.

What's on the menu at Baedagol Bakery House

This is the drink menu at Baedagol Bakery House, a Goyang café. There's a wide range of drinks — coffee, lattes, juice, ade, tea, bingsu (shaved ice dessert), and more — and since it's melon season right now, the melon-based menu items stood out.

Being a Wondang bakery café, Baedagol Bakery House also had a wide variety of bakery items ready.

Inside the one-touch open showcase, the fresh-fruit visuals and the lovely variety of cakes all looked genuinely delicious.

With meal breads and dessert breads both well represented, there was plenty of choice.

What we ordered: fresh melon yogurt smoothie, pain d'or and blueberry scone

Since I timed my visit for melon season, I couldn't skip a melon drink, right? The fresh melon yogurt smoothie, piled high with fresh melon, was a perfect summer menu item — the melon's sweetness and the yogurt's tang balanced each other out beautifully!

You just stir the syrup at the bottom in well before drinking. It really was loaded with sweet, fresh melon almost overflowing out of the cup, which was very satisfying.

The pain d'or, soft and dusted with powdered sugar like snow, was sweet and perfect for a little sugar boost after the meal.

The blueberry scone had blueberry jam packed generously all the way through, and the balance of nuttiness with the tart blueberry was perfect — I really enjoyed it~

I'd wanted to visit this Goyang café during hydrangea season for a while, and the lush, green scenery at Baedagol Bakery House was healing all on its own. I came with my mom and took some pretty photos of her, and seeing how happy that made her made me happy too. With a sand play area also on site, it looked like a wonderful spot to bring kids as well.
