“Wait, did you lose weight?”

I went to Ryeowon Skin Care (려원 피부관리) at Nowon Station for a contouring treatment. My face is on the angular side and my cheekbones especially stand out, so I've always worried about my face shape. A friend had gone to this Nowon aesthetic salon before her wedding and recommended it, so I'd wanted to try it.

Honestly, I thought, how different could one session be? But right afterward even I thought my jawline looked a little more defined, and the next day a coworker I hadn't seen in a while said, “Did you lose weight? Your face looks smaller?” and I was just like, huh...? haha. One session, and this happens? So here's my contouring review :-)

Where is Ryeowon Skin Care, and what about parking and hours?

Ryeowon Skin Care is in Room 304, Mido Building, 1426 Dongil-ro, Nowon-gu, Seoul. Come out of Nowon Station Exit 9 (Line 4) or Exit 3 (Line 7). From Exit 3 you only cross one traffic light and you're at the building, so it was easy to find.

You can use the Mido Building underground garage, and 1 hour is covered. When I looked, there weren't a lot of spaces, so keep that in mind if you're driving.

Hours are daily 10:00–21:00, with a break from 12:30 to 13:30. Booking through Naver is required.

How does the consultation before contouring work?

Before the contouring, the therapist first checked which areas I usually worry about. My number one concern: cheekbones!

The therapist chatted with me as casually as a friend would, so I wasn't nervous and could easily tell her what bothered me.

The treatment went cleansing → decolletage → hand contouring → mask, and took a little over an hour in total. It isn't done with devices; it's all by hand from start to finish.

100% hand contouring: does it hurt?

Contouring here doesn't jump straight to the face. Before the real contouring, the therapist loosened the area from under the neck to the upper chest and shoulders by hand. My trapezius and shoulders are usually really knotted, so this part already felt amazing haha.

Decolletage isn't the main event; it felt like warming the body up before the face work. After the contouring she massaged my neck and trapezius once more, which I was very happy about.

The face work wasn't painful pressing either. The pressure was firm in a good way, and she told me to say so if it hurt, so you can adjust it. I never felt pain strong enough to ask her to lighten up!

Did my jawline look different right after one session and the next day?

When I looked in the mirror afterward, my first thought was that my face line looked a little smoother and more tidy than before. To my eye the jawline looked slightly more defined too. I didn't think one session changed my face shape itself, but what surprised me was the next day haha.

A coworker I hadn't seen in a while, back from leave, asked as soon as she saw me whether I'd lost weight and said my face looked smaller. I only had one session yesterday, what is this...? haha. Anyway, it was a compliment, so I was happy hehe.
