Couple's pork BBQ in Suam-dong, Ulsan, ending with ramyeon: Biniljip
In short
Biniljip Suam Branch (비닐집 수암점) is a pork BBQ restaurant with an outdoor street-stall feel in Suam-dong, Nam-gu, Ulsan. On a return visit with her boyfriend, the writer ordered the 500g Biniljip platter with the kimchi stew set for two (50,000 won), made kimchi and chive pancakes at the self-bar, and finished with Ansung Tangmyun ramyeon. Thanks to both the meat and the self-bar spread, Biniljip Suam Branch is a BBQ spot she would happily come back to.

I'm introducing a pork BBQ place in Suam-dong, Nam-gu, Ulsan that I loved so much the first time that I went back: Biniljip Suam Branch (비닐집 수암점). I went with my boyfriend, and when we eat BBQ, the meat matters of course, but we especially love places with lots of side dishes and a good self-bar. Biniljip delivered on that 👍 You can make your own kimchi pancakes and chive pancakes, and there's even unlimited ramyeon at this BBQ place.
Biniljip Suam Branch: atmosphere, opening hours and parking
As the name suggests (biniljip means "vinyl house"), Biniljip Suam Branch is a BBQ restaurant wrapped in vinyl sheeting, and when we went the vinyl was rolled up?! So it had a full outdoor street-stall vibe. Grilling meat somewhere open instead of a stuffy room somehow makes it taste even better.

Biniljip Suam Branch is open from 4 PM to 11 PM. For parking, use the Suam Hoesusan Market parking lot! We parked there too, and on your way out after the meal, just tell a staff member your license plate number and they'll register your parking.
Inside Biniljip Suam Branch

Inside, it's spacious with lots of tables! I heard it can hold up to 100 people. It looked great for a dinner with friends, family or a date.
What's at the Biniljip self-bar?

At the self-bar you can get extra helpings of the basic side dishes, and there's a station for making kimchi and chive pancakes plus a ramyeon bar. This self-bar is one of the reasons we came back to Biniljip in Suam-dong, Ulsan! There's a variety of ramyeon too: Ansung Tangmyun, Samyang Ramyun, Yeol Ramyeon and Jin Ramyun. Just pick the one you want and cook it.

Lettuce, perilla leaves, scallion salad, ssamjang (wrap sauce), garlic, kimchi, bean sprouts, pickled radish wraps, kelp and more were all available at the self-bar to take as much as you need. The street-stall atmosphere is great, but I think the generous self-bar is another reason people love Biniljip, haha. It's a Nam-gu, Ulsan favorite where high satisfaction is basically guaranteed!
Biniljip menu and prices: is the set for two a better deal?

The Biniljip platter (500g) + stew set for two is ₩50,000, while ordering each separately comes to ₩52,000, so it's ₩2,000 off. You order on the kiosk on the table, and there are set menus that pair the meat with a stew. If you usually eat stew and rice with your BBQ, I'd recommend the set :) We ordered the set for two too 😉

The Biniljip platter is a 500g assortment that lets you try pork belly, pork neck and kkodeulmoksal (chewy pork neck) all at once. There's also a wide range of drinks: highball, Hwayo, bokbunja (black raspberry wine), maehwasu (plum wine), Chung-ha, soju, beer and more.

The basic side dishes were seasoned scallion salad, pickled chili peppers, bracken (gosari), seasoned bean sprouts, garlic stems and napa cabbage kimchi. Note that the bracken and pickled peppers aren't at the self-bar, so if you want more, just ask the staff.
What we ordered: Biniljip platter + stew set for two (50,000 won)

Our meat has arrived!!!

The Biniljip platter came with 2 big chunks of pork neck, 3 pieces of kkodeulmoksal, and 9 pieces of pork belly cut to a nice bite size. The raw meat color alone looked so appetizing that I couldn't wait to grill it ><
Making chive and kimchi pancakes at the self-bar

While my boyfriend grilled the meat, I went to the self-bar and fried a half kimchi, half chive pancake! There's a real fun in making it yourself. Pancakes are best while warm, but if they cool down later, you can put them on the grill to crisp them back up.

Grilling side dishes on the tilted grill
On the Biniljip grill they put side dishes like kimchi, bean sprouts, bracken and garlic alongside the meat, and grilling them together makes everything taste so much better! The grill is slightly tilted, so if you put the sides at the lower end, they cook beautifully in the pork fat.

It all got cooked golden and perfect haha

Pork belly, pork neck or kkodeulmoksal: which cut is best?
Of the three cuts on the Biniljip platter, pork belly was my favorite!!!! The kkodeulmoksal, with its charming chewy texture, was cooked evenly too, and eating several cuts at once on the assortment makes the difference in texture and taste between each cut really clear.

Now let's really dig in haha. I put meat on lettuce and perilla leaves, added scallion salad, grilled kimchi or bean sprouts to taste, and made wraps. Since you can grab whatever sides you like from the self-bar, wrap lovers will be happy. The meat itself is just good. Chewy and tender!!! It's definitely a meat place!
Kimchi stew or doenjang stew with the set?

For the Biniljip set you can choose between doenjang stew and kimchi stew, and we went with the kimchi stew.

The kimchi stew's broth looked rich from the color alone, and it was loaded with kimchi, tofu and pork, and tasted great. Having a spicy stew right when I was starting to feel the greasiness was so nice. The brisket doenjang stew at Biniljip is amazing too!!!! It just comes down to preference; both are delicious, so I think you'll enjoy whichever you pick.
Finishing with unlimited self-serve ramyeon

Dessert ramyeon is a must >< We cooked Ansung Tangmyun. I was full, but somehow there's always room for ramyeon 😉 Unlimited ramyeon is a real plus that sets Biniljip apart.
Final verdict on Biniljip Suam Branch
On this return visit to Biniljip Suam Branch, the BBQ place in Suam-dong, Ulsan, we had a full meal of meat, stew, chive pancakes, kimchi pancakes and ramyeon. The atmosphere, the meat quality, the variety of side dishes and the spicy ramyeon were all satisfying. It's a place I want to visit again next time I crave BBQ.
