Suwon sundaeguk restaurant at night with galbi mandu: Gohyangok
In short
Gohyangok Spicy Sundaeguk Suwon Omokcheon Branch (고향옥얼큰순대국 오목천점) is a large sundaeguk (Korean blood sausage soup) restaurant on Seosuwon-ro in Omokcheon-dong, Gwonseon-gu, Suwon. On a night visit, the writer ordered sundaeguk with the sundae-only option, makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles) and a side of galbi mandu (rib-filled dumplings). The milky, odor-free broth was packed with traditional-style sundae, and alternating it with the icy makguksu was the highlight. With parking and a spacious dining hall, Gohyangok Omokcheon is an easy pick for solo meals and family dinners alike.

Today I'm bringing you a piping-hot visit review of Gohyangok Spicy Sundaeguk (고향옥얼큰순대국) Omokcheon Branch, a sundaeguk spot in Omokcheon-dong! 🍲✨
I really love gukbap (rice soup), and every time I passed through Omokcheon-dong, the big storefront caught my eye and I wanted to try it. It was a day when I craved something hot and filling, so I happily rushed over! 👌👌
Gohyangok in Omokcheon-dong: parking and atmosphere
Gohyangok Omokcheon Branch has parking in front, so it was very easy to visit by car. 🚗🚗 The first thing I noticed on arrival was the big, tidy building! I went at night, and the brightly lit sign made it easy to spot from far away.
Inside, it was really spacious and pleasant! Wood tones and white tile come together for a clean, neat feel. Tables are spaced generously and the seating is well divided, so it's perfect for eating alone or coming with family and friends. 👍👍

Side dishes and the somyeon noodle add-in
As soon as we sat down, the basic side dishes were set out! Seokbakji (chunky radish kimchi): kimchi is the lifeblood of a gukbap place, right? It was nicely fermented, crunchy and refreshing, a perfect match for the soup.

- Yeolmu/cabbage water kimchi: clean and mild, the best palate cleanser between bites.
- Chili peppers, onions and ssamjang (seasoned dipping paste): fresh green chilies and onions are prepared too.
- Somyeon noodles: Gohyangok's sweet spot! A portion of thin wheat noodles to drop into your soup comes standard.

Every side dish was clean and tasty, so my chopsticks were busy even before the soup arrived! haha

Today's three-dish feast!
This time we ordered sundaeguk (sundae-only option), cool makguksu, and galbi mandu on the side, a generous spread! 😄😄

Milky, deep broth! Sundaeguk (sundae only)
When I eat sundaeguk, I prefer just sundae over head meat or offal, so I switched to the "sundae only" option! 😍😍

The sundaeguk arrived bubbling, and it passed on looks alone! It was piled with fresh chives, and the broth was milky and rich without any gamy smell. I stirred in the perilla powder and chives and took a sip: nutty, deeply savory flavor filled my mouth. 👌👌

It was generously loaded with well-stuffed traditional sundae. I slurped down the somyeon too, then finally added rice and topped it with a piece of seokbakji, and I couldn't help saying, "Ah, this is why I eat sundaeguk!" 😆😆

Icy, cool and spicy makguksu
The makguksu I ordered with the hot sundaeguk was an excellent choice!
Buckwheat noodles came in a big bowl of broth full of floating ice, topped generously with sweet-and-sour seasoning and seaweed flakes.
I mixed it up and took a big bite: the noodles were springy and chewy, and the broth was so cold it gave me brain freeze and felt like it cleared my chest! One bite of hot sundaeguk, one bite of cold makguksu, that hot-and-cold combo was a work of art. 👍👍

Sweet and salty treat: galbi mandu
Soup and noodles alone felt like not enough, so I added galbi mandu (galbi-flavored dumplings) on the side! The freshly steamed wrappers were moist and chewy, and the filling was packed with sweet, salty galbi-marinated meat. Bite in and the juices burst out in a savory explosion. Especially try wrapping a dumpling in the cold, sweet-spicy makguksu noodles and eating them together. It's honey-level good, so please eat it this way!

Overall review and summary
- Location and setting: in Omokcheon-dong, easy parking, and the restaurant is big and very clean!
- Taste: deep, nutty sundaeguk broth, chest-clearing cold makguksu, sweet-salty galbi mandu, every dish a success!
- Revisit: 200%! Next time I'll come back to try Gohyangok's signature spicy sundaeguk (얼큰순대국).
A sundaeguk spot in Omokcheon-dong! If you're looking for cool makguksu, do visit Gohyangok Spicy Sundaeguk Omokcheon Branch. You won't regret it! 👍✨
