In short
Hwadogeuro Gan Godeungeo Siheung Baegot Branch is a family-friendly Korean restaurant in Baegot, Siheung (Gyeonggi) that serves wood-fired grilled fish with sotbap (rice cooked in a stone pot). Dining with a child and parents, the writer ordered the mackerel sotbap set for 17,000 won, the Spanish mackerel sotbap set for 21,000 won (switched to gondre rice, made with Korean thistle), and the bracken, mackerel and braised radish sotbap set for 19,000 won. The meal came with a self-serve bar of namul (seasoned vegetables), lettuce wraps, tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) and japchae (glass noodles). The thick, meaty Spanish mackerel was a hit with the child, making Hwadogeuro Gan Godeungeo a solid pick for a three-generation family meal in Baegot.

First visit to Hwadogeuro Gan Godeungeo in Baegot: lunch with a child and parents
While looking for a place to have lunch with my child and parents, I found a newly opened spot, Hwadogeuro Gan Godeungeo Siheung Baegot Branch. Grilled fish is a menu everyone from kids to adults likes, so it's something I often pick when looking for a family outing spot. Hearing that they serve fish grilled in a wood-fired oven with sotbap and various side dishes, I decided right away.

The dining room was spacious, and there were chairs for kids too.

Fish was being grilled in real time in the wood-fired oven near the counter.

The spoons and chopsticks came cleanly packaged in a pouch, and they even provided tableware for my kid.
Hwadogeuro Gan Godeungeo menu and prices
We ordered three menus in total.
- Mackerel sotbap set — ₩17,000
- Spanish mackerel sotbap set — ₩21,000 + gondre rice change
- Bracken-mackerel radish stew sotbap set — ₩19,000
The advantage was that each of us could order to our own taste and try a variety of things.

The basic side dishes came out very neatly arranged. There's a rice bowl and siraegi (dried radish greens) doenjang soup to share.
What's on the Hwadogeuro Gan Godeungeo self-serve bar?

A self-serve bar right up the parents' alley! There were various namul, wrap vegetables, tteokbokki, japchae — menus not found in the basic side dishes. There was also sauce and sesame/perilla oil so you could eat it as white rice or bibimbap.
Freshly fried zucchini pancake was there too.
You always see a notice at all-you-can-eat places! But this one's a bit different, isn't it?
No extra charge even if you leave food. Please take only what you can eat.
Honest review of the Hwadogeuro Gan Godeungeo sotbap sets

The sotbap is basic white rice by default, but you can switch to gondre rice for an extra charge. The gondre aroma is subtle and pairs well with the mild fish.

Bracken, mackerel and braised radish sotbap set (19,000 won)
This one came out first, and the seasoning wasn't harsh, pairing really well with the rice. The radish was cooked soft, and with the bracken mixed in it felt a bit healthier, like home cooking. It had a different charm from grilled fish, and the spiciness balanced it very well.

Spanish mackerel set (21,000 won) vs. mackerel sotbap set (17,000 won)
The fish menus, most satisfying as the signature dish! Grilled in the wood-fired oven, golden and crispy outside, moist inside. The mackerel had almost none of the fishy taste fish can have, and the Spanish mackerel was thick-fleshed and tender, so my kid ate it really well. It was even better being able to enjoy grilled fish this deliciously outside, without the smell filling up the house. Both fish felt even more filling eaten with the sotbap, and coming as a neat set with the basic side dishes was a plus.

In one corner, iced tea, plum tea, coffee and more were set up for dessert. Being able to pick according to taste made for a perfect finish!
Verdict: is Hwadogeuro Gan Godeungeo good for a family meal?

If you like grilled fish, I recommend this place! The wood-fired fish was moist, and eating it together with the sotbap made for a hearty meal. Maybe because it's a family menu that can satisfy both kids and parents, there were many tables like ours with parents or kids in tow. If you're looking for a family outing spot or family gathering restaurant in Baegot, I recommend Hwadogeuro Gan Godeungeo Siheung Baegot Branch!
