Changwon pork BBQ dinner for two with a nurungji finish: Anmin

This time, through Superchart, I visited a pork BBQ restaurant called Anmin (安民) in Jung-dong, Changwon.

I'd actually tried to go once before, but that day it was already fully booked so I couldn't get in — which only made me more curious. This time I made a dinner reservation in advance and finally made it in. My mom was out for an appointment that day, so my dad and I decided on a father-daughter dinner date and a Changwon BBQ outing. Even with a reservation, there were people waiting at the entrance — it seems like this place is already pretty well known in Jung-dong.

What is Anmin Jung-dong like inside? Wood-tone rooms and stocked restrooms

Anmin Jung-dong has a clean, wood-tone-centered interior, so if you're expecting a typical BBQ joint you'll be a little surprised. The atmosphere works for family dinners, dates, or friend gatherings alike.

The first thing I thought walking in was, "Wait, the vibe here is actually really nice?" I'd expected a standard BBQ place, but the interior was surprisingly clean and stylish. It's calmly decorated around wood tones, so it suits family meals as well as dates or hangouts with friends.

I personally think whether a restaurant's bathroom is clean matters a lot, and this place's bathroom was well kept — and it was impressive that they'd stocked emergency supplies like sanitary pads, hand sanitizer, and travel mouthwash for women customers. That kind of small detail made me feel they really care about guests.

How much meat is in the half-pig set? Side dishes and sauces at Anmin Jung-dong

At Anmin Jung-dong, the basic side dishes and sauces are already neatly set out when you sit down. We ordered the half-pig portion (banmari) for two that day, and once it was grilled and cut, the amount was massive.

The side dishes and sauces on the table were laid out very neatly. There's a good variety of banchan to eat with the meat — baek-kimchi (white kimchi), pickled vegetables, green onion kimchi, and more — plus several kinds of sauce, so even eating one piece of meat at a time, you could enjoy a different combination each time.

And now, the most important part — the meat! It was much juicier and tastier than I expected. There was a good mix of fattier and leaner cuts, and best of all, the staff grilled it perfectly themselves and arranged it neatly on the side for easy eating. We ordered the half-pig portion, and at first I thought, "Wait, that's all we get?!" — but once it was grilled and sliced, the amount was enormous. At BBQ places you're often too busy grilling to really talk with whoever you're with, but at Anmin, since the staff grill it for you, I got to chat comfortably with my dad the whole time — which was really nice.

Best sauce combo: white kimchi, cheese fondue, pickled garlic and pork

My dad said the shiitake-wasabi sauce was his favorite among all the sauces, while I was easily most into the cheese fondue. One combination I discovered myself: baek-kimchi + cheese fondue + pickled garlic + meat!

Wrapped up in one bite, it's actually a pretty interesting flavor. The freshness of the baek-kimchi and the salty punch of the pickled garlic meet the soft, savory cheese — weirdly, it feels like a kind of East-meets-West harmony between Western cheese and Korean pickles and kimchi. Haha. We also had lettuce and various vegetables to wrap the meat with, so I really got my fill of ssam (lettuce wraps) that day. The meat is delicious on its own, but with so many banchan and sauces to pair it with, it never got boring even near the end. I'd originally planned to order naengmyeon (cold noodles) or rice after the meat, but the portion was so big I was already pretty full.

Ending with nurungji and the receipt-review pork skin at Anmin Jung-dong

At Anmin Jung-dong, writing a receipt review gets you a free extra serving of pork skin. We finished with nurungji (scorched rice soup) instead of naengmyeon or rice, and it was perfect after all that rich meat.

And since I wrote a receipt review, we also got the pork skin as a bonus!

So in the end, we wrapped things up lightly with nurungji! The hot nurungji that came out was savory and light, and it was exactly what we needed to clean the palate after eating rich, fatty meat. If you're wondering what to order last after BBQ, I'd personally recommend nurungji too.

Who should visit Anmin Jung-dong, and how parking and ordering work

Parking at Anmin Jung-dong is linked with the Jung-dong public parking lot, supporting one car per table for up to 2 hours. Ordering is available through Hi Order, and if you come with kids, it seems they'll lend you a tablet too.

Overall, Anmin didn't feel like a BBQ place that only appeals to a certain age group — it felt like somewhere anyone, of any age, could eat comfortably with anyone. It seems great for drinks and meat with friends, for a family meal with your parents, and even for visiting with kids. Since they lend a tablet for kids, you can feel the consideration for family customers too.

On top of that, parking is linked with the Jung-dong public parking lot, supporting one car per table for up to 2 hours, so it's worth keeping in mind if you're driving. This time I went with just my dad, and while the food was delicious, what I liked even more personally was that since the staff grilled the meat for us, we could just sit back and chat about all sorts of things. My dad enjoyed it too, so next time I'm planning to come back with my mom as well, all three of us as a family! Also, the staff member who grilled our meat was gorgeous. Lol.
