I took a rare weekday off to have a lunch date with my mom. Now that my daughter has started school again, it's been a while since I've had time alone with just my mom.

My mom has been looking after my daughter ever since she was born. I really don't think I could have kept working and raising her without my mom's help. She's always been there for me like it's the most natural thing in the world, but the more I think about it, the more grateful I feel — so whenever I get the chance, I try to grab a good meal with her and catch up.

But between spending time with my daughter and working, I haven't had many chances lately for a quiet meal alone with just my mom. This time we finally matched schedules and went out for a nice lunch. Since my mom loves pasta, I looked up good pasta spots in Beomgye and ended up at Two Find Peter Beomgye Branch.

We arrived just a little after 11, right at opening, and there were already customers inside. Since Two Find Peter is the only place on the 5th floor, it wasn't hard to find even on a first visit.

What the dining room feels like at 11am

Once inside, the restaurant was much bigger than I expected. Different sections had slightly different lighting and moods, which naturally divided the space — overall it felt calm and comfortable, which I really liked.

It wasn't loud or chaotic; it felt like a good place to chat and eat at an easy pace. We sat in the brighter, inner section. Sitting down with my mom and chatting about this and that already put me in a good mood before the food even arrived.

What two people ordered

Once seated, I looked over the menu and there were way more options than I expected — pasta, steak, pizza, gnocchi, all kinds of things, so I spent a while deciding.

Since it was just the two of us, I wanted to try everything, but in the end we ordered the pollack roe oil pasta, spicy crab pasta, sous vide pork neck steak, and 100% fresh-squeezed orange juice.

Before the mains came out, we got some bread first. Eating warm bread with my mom before the meal already gave me that relaxed, leisurely lunch feeling.

Pollack roe oil pasta (myeongnan oil pasta)

First up, the pollack roe oil pasta, which I personally enjoyed the most. It's pasta cooked in olive oil with pollack roe (myeongnan) and garlic scapes, and I loved the crunch the garlic scapes added. You could taste the distinct umami of the roe, and as I kept eating, a subtle spiciness crept in that made it taste even better than expected.

I expected an oil-based pasta to taste light and clean, but the slight spiciness kept it from feeling too plain, and it was the kind of dish where I kept reaching for more. Out of everything we had that day, this was personally my favorite.

Spicy crabby pasta, my mother's favorite

The spicy crab pasta was made with a spicy cream sauce full of crab flavor, and it also had a bit of a kick. My mom usually loves cream pasta, so we ordered this one, and unlike a typical cream pasta, she said the subtle spiciness actually made it even more delicious.

The crab paired really well with the spicy cream sauce, and there was plenty of sauce, so dipping the bread in it was great too. Between the two pastas, both were on the spicier side, but if I had to compare, the pollack roe oil pasta felt slightly spicier.

My mom clearly loved the spicy crab pasta the most and really enjoyed it. Watching her eat happily made me happy too.

How tender is the sous vide pork neck steak?

The sous vide pork neck steak we ordered alongside the pasta was also excellent. At around ₩20,000, it felt reasonably priced for a steak dish, and more than anything, the meat was incredibly tender. It cut easily with a knife, and it seemed to be cooked to roughly medium-rare.

It came with fries, tomato, and mushroom as garnish, along with pepper, wasabi, and mayo sauces.

Of the three, the mayo sauce was our favorite. Dipping the meat in it turned out to work surprisingly well.

100% fresh-squeezed orange juice

We also had a glass of 100% fresh-squeezed orange juice. Since it's squeezed straight from the fruit, it tasted naturally tangy and sweet rather than artificially sugary.

Sipping it between bites of the heavier pasta and steak cleansed the palate nicely — its refreshing, clean taste paired well with the food.

Pizza and gnocchi on the next visit

While eating, I noticed other tables' dishes looked really good too. In particular, the table next to us had chicken potato pizza and gnocchi, and the moment those dishes arrived, we couldn't stop glancing over. If we come back, I definitely want to try the pizza and gnocchi.

I came looking for a good Beomgye pasta restaurant, but with pizza, gnocchi, and steak also on the menu, it seems like a great spot for a group where everyone can pick something to their taste. The relaxed atmosphere also makes it a good pick for gatherings with friends or family dinners. If you're after a Beomgye pizza spot or gnocchi restaurant, this is worth checking out too.

A slow weekday lunch with my mother

Eating good food was nice, but what I loved most about this day was simply having time alone with my mom. Usually I'm out and about with my daughter or busy working, so sitting down together, eating slowly, and just talking doesn't happen as often as I'd like. Maybe that's why this lunch date felt extra special.

I'm always grateful to my mom for looking after my daughter and helping me so much, but spending this time together made me feel that gratitude all over again. I want to stop using being busy as an excuse and make time to eat good food and go to nice places with her more often.

Two Find Peter Beomgye Branch was satisfying all around, and the calm, comfortable atmosphere made it a great spot for an unhurried lunch date with my mom. Next time I revisit, I want to try other pasta dishes my mom likes, and definitely order the chicken potato pizza and gnocchi we had our eyes on this time. Getting to spend a good, delicious lunch with my mom after so long made this a day I'll remember.
