Apparently I never ate rice well as a kid, so my mom always grilled pork belly for me! Amazingly, pork belly was the one thing I'd eat, haha. Maybe that's why it's still one of my all-time favorite foods 🐷

I'm that serious about pork belly?! After trying lots of pork belly places, I found one I want to recommend, so I'm back with a restaurant tip for the first time in a while. The weather has turned cool, and I wanted to eat meat with that open-air patio feel. So I went to Cham Dwaejitgan Bucheon Sinjung-dong Branch! I tucked into pork belly and ogyeopsal, then doenjang stew, steamed egg and fried rice :)

🪑 Spacious, clean interior: good for a company dinner?

Spacious interior and meat aging fridge at Cham Dwaejitgan Bucheon Sinjung-dong Branch

The first thing I noticed walking in was the meat aging fridge! The meat is stacked neatly inside, so watching the aging process was kind of fun.

The interior is done in black and beige tones, and it's much bigger than I expected. It's kept clean too, so I could eat comfortably. Tables are mostly 4-person and 8-person, with plenty of room for group gatherings. It'd work for dates, family meals or a team dinner. 🥬 7 side dishes, sauces and self-bar refills

We ordered pork belly, ogyeopsal, doenjang stew, steamed egg and fried rice! The basic banchan (side dishes) came generously in 7 kinds: pajeori (scallion salad), cabbage salad, ssam vegetables, aged kimchi, seasoned bean sprouts, minari (water dropwort) and garlic scapes.

My favorite was the well-fermented aged kimchi. Grilled together with the meat, how could it not be delicious?!

Sauces including wasabi mushroom and fresh wasabi at Cham Dwaejitgan

The sauces were varied too: wasabi mushroom, fresh wasabi, spicy sauce, salt, raw garlic and ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste). Each had a description, so it's easy to pick what suits your taste.

The banchan can also be refilled freely at the self bar, so I could bring back plenty of fresh vegetables. With so many sides beyond the meat, I wanted to introduce it to anyone searching for a Bucheon pork belly place.

🥩 How do staff-grilled pork belly and ogyeopsal taste?

At Cham Dwaejitgan Bucheon Sinjung-dong Branch, a staff member grilled the pork belly and ogyeopsal for us on a grill with charcoal and rice husks. Finally, the main dish we'd been waiting for! Thick pork belly and ogyeopsal arrived with shishito peppers, king oyster mushrooms and potatoes.

The meat was bright pink and nice and thick, so it looked appetizing just sitting there.

I was fascinated that the grill uses charcoal and rice husks. After the meat goes on, they close the lid to cook it, and since the staff grilled it for us, we could eat in comfort. They flipped the meat back and forth with care, so even the wait for it to cook was something to look forward to.

First I wanted to taste the meat itself, so I just dipped it lightly in salt. From the first bite, the juicy meat and a faint smoky aroma stood out. It had a slightly different charm from the pork belly I usually eat.

Next I put the meat on lettuce and topped it with grilled minari, bean sprouts, kimchi, raw garlic and wasabi, then took a bite!

The firm texture of Boseong green pork and the rich flavor of its fat blended well. Pork belly really does taste better with lots of side dishes, haha.

Since the staff grilled it, I wasn't busy at the grill, and I liked being able to chat with my companion and eat at a relaxed pace. So it works not only for people looking for pork belly in Sinjungdong, but also as a comfortable spot for a team dinner.

🥔 Cham Dwaejitgan's specialty: wasabi mushroom potato wraps

The dish I really wanted to introduce at Cham Dwaejitgan is the potato wrap. A staff member told us to top the grilled potato with wasabi mushroom and garlic scapes.

At first I thought it was a slightly unfamiliar combination, but it turned out really appealing! The crispy, nutty potato gets the sharp, spicy kick of the wasabi mushroom, and the fresh garlic scapes finish it off cleanly at the end.

If you keep eating only meat you can get tired of it, but this different combination gave me a whole new flavor. Even as a pork belly lover, the potato wrap felt fresh to me. If you visit Cham Dwaejitgan, definitely try the potato wrap :)

🌿 Sinjungdong patio dining on a cool day

The meat was good, but I personally liked the patio atmosphere of Cham Dwaejitgan Bucheon Sinjung-dong Branch too. A cool breeze drifts in, so it doesn't feel stuffy, and it feels like eating outdoors.

On days like this, it's great to spend a relaxed time with good meat and a drink, right? The mood worked for a casual meetup with friends or a family meal. If you're looking for a Bucheon pork belly place with patio vibes, especially a BBQ spot with a different atmosphere near Sinjungdong Station, take a look!

🍚 Finish with minari fried rice!

The fried rice at Cham Dwaejitgan was gochujang-seasoned style, topped with minari, seaweed flakes and sesame oil and stir-fried by the staff. After all that meat, you have to finish with fried rice, right?!

Finished minari fried rice at Cham Dwaejitgan

It came sprinkled with minari, seaweed flakes and sesame oil, and the smell alone looked so appetizing. Since the staff stir-fried it for us, we got to eat it perfectly finished.

It was a little different from the kimchi fried rice you might expect. The fragrance of minari and the savory depth of the gochujang seasoning made it special. Even after eating plenty of meat, my spoon kept going. Finishing pork belly with fried rice is the golden rule, isn't it?!
