Seongsu sushi tacos: seaweed chip shells, wasabi mayo fries, Morimoly
In short
Morimoly (모리몰리) is a sushi taco restaurant in a side street of Seongsu-dong, Seoul, near Seoulsup Station, that uses crispy gimbugak (fried seaweed chips) as taco shells. At Morimoly, the writer ordered the signature Morimoly Taco and the Shrimp Taco, picked them up from the upstairs seats after a KakaoTalk alert, and shared fries with garlic mayo and wasabi mayo sauces. Morimoly proves Korean and Mexican flavors pair surprisingly well and is worth a visit for anyone after a different kind of taco.

Seongsu has so many great places these days that I couldn't decide where to go, until I realized I was craving tacos. So I ended up at Morimoly, a taco spot near Seoulsup in Seongsu, haha.

How do you get to Morimoly from Seoulsup Station?
Morimoly is a taco place tucked into a Seongsu side street, just a short walk from Exit 1 of Seoulsup Station toward the Seongsu café street. It's about 5 minutes on foot, so it's pretty easy to reach.
It sits in one of those alleys with that classic Seongsu vibe, so it's nice to find while strolling around.

What is a gimbugak sushi taco?
Every taco at Morimoly uses crispy fried seaweed (gimbugak) as the shell instead of a tortilla. It's the style people now call a sushi taco.
I honestly just went for a regular taco, you know? Haha. But then I saw the menu and was totally surprised!

All the tacos at Morimoly are gimbugak tacos! It was a style I'd never seen, so my first thought was, what is this? Normal tacos use a tortilla, right? Here they use crispy fried gimbugak as the shell to hold the filling, and I thought that was so cool, haha.

It's Mexican food made with a Korean ingredient, gimbugak, which I find so fascinating, haha. In one phrase, these tacos feel like a Korean-Mexican fusion?!

There's plenty of fusion food in Seongsu these days, but I think this is the most unusual combination I've seen, haha.

What's the atmosphere like, and how do ordering and pickup work?
The restaurant felt clean and stylish. It has that trendy Seongsu feel without being overwhelming, so it would be great for a casual visit with friends.

It was fun to look around the interior while waiting for the food, haha.

I ordered the Morimoly Taco and the Shrimp Taco.

The seats at Morimoly are upstairs, so when your order is ready you get a KakaoTalk (Korean messaging app) alert! Then you just pick it up like this, haha.
How does the signature Morimoly Taco taste?
The Morimoly Taco is the restaurant's flagship, with a clearly present sauce and a crispy seaweed shell. The name alone screams signature menu, and it lived up to it, haha.

The first thing I noticed from the first bite was the sauce! Tacos often put the ingredients front and center, but here the sauce really stood out. It's sweet and savory with a refreshing touch here and there, so I kept reaching for more. It went well with the fillings too, and I could see why it's the signature.

The crunch of the gimbugak shell was especially impressive. The texture is nothing like a regular tortilla: it shatters crisply with each bite while a gentle, nutty seaweed aroma comes through, haha. It worked much better than I expected, and I was surprised.

How was the Shrimp Taco?
The Shrimp Taco has plump, springy shrimp that pairs well with fresh vegetables. I love anything with shrimp, haha, so I ordered with high hopes, and it was pretty good!

The shrimp is seriously plump, haha. Not tough or dry at all, and every bite has that chubby bounce.
You can taste the shrimp's natural sweetness, and eating it with the fresh vegetables made a nice combination. Personally, I think shrimp lovers will be happy with this one, haha.

Does the fries sauce change by menu item?
Morimoly serves fries with the tacos, and the sauce differs depending on the menu item. Mine came with garlic mayo and wasabi mayo!

I didn't think much of it at first, but dipping into each one, the flavors were quite different. So if you go with a group, I think it would be more fun to order different items and share rather than ordering several of the same one, haha.

Thanks to that, even a single meal felt like trying lots of flavors. You can find all sorts of food in Seongsu these days, but I heard Morimoly is the first in Korea to make sushi tacos with gimbugak like this?

Why I recommend Morimoly as a taco spot near Seoulsup in Seongsu
I think taco lovers and people who like trying new foods will both be happy here! If you're looking for a taco spot near Seoulsup in Seongsu, it's worth a visit.

I went in just wanting tacos and came out charmed by the unexpected appeal of gimbugak tacos, haha.

It would be good to stop by after a walk in Seoulsup, and it seems fine as a Seongsu date course too. Next time I'd like to try the other menu items, haha.
If you want to try a different kind of taco, I recommend Morimoly! It made me realize Korean and Mexican food can go together this well, haha. I hear it's the first and only gimbugak taco shop in Korea, not just in Seongsu, so if you're after a special taco, give Morimoly a visit!
