Gwangju Korean BBQ: three-cut beef mixed platter at Jeongwon Galbi
In short
Jeongwon Galbi Gyeonggi Gwangju Branch is a Korean BBQ and grill restaurant on Gyeongancheon-ro in Gwangju, Gyeonggi, spread over the first and second floors. Visiting with her mother, the writer ordered the beef mixed platter of idong galbi (marinated short ribs), beef galbi-sal (rib meat) and fresh flower galbi, grilling them in that order — juicy fresh flower galbi first, chewy galbi-sal next, marinated idong galbi last. With a self-serve side dish corner and doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) to finish, Jeongwon Galbi makes an easy family dinner out.

Inside Jeongwon Galbi: two floors, hall tables and private rooms

Ta-da! I arrived at Jeongwon Galbi Gyeonggi Gwangju Branch on a beautiful sunny day! For reference, you can park right in front of the restaurant~ Since the restaurant spans the 1st and 2nd floors, the big, spacious building really caught my eye.

Once I stepped inside, I saw a lot of tables! As you can see in the photos, many customers were already having their meal~ I went with my mom for a family meal, and I noticed a lot of other tables who seemed to be there for the same reason! I was also curious about the 2nd floor, so I went up to check it out — it turned out to be set up as private rooms, like in the last photo~ I thought it would also be great for gatherings or work dinners! haha
What's on the menu and in the beef mixed platter?

Once we sat down comfortably at the spacious table, they came by to take our order haha. There were so many delicious-looking menu items that I had a hard time deciding what to get! Since we were already there, we decided to order the beef mixed platter, which comes with a variety of cuts! The beef mixed platter consists of idong galbi + beef galbi-sal + fresh flower galbi. Now let me show you the beef mixed platter in detail~~
After a short wait, the beef mixed platter came out along with a variety of side dishes! First off, I loved that there were so many side dishes to go along with the meat! And if you want more of something, you can just grab it from the self-serve corner, which was really convenient! hahaha I love pickled onions so I went and got more haha

And now, the beef mixed platter I was most curious about! It was so interesting because it came with such a variety of cuts! What does this one taste like~ what about that one~ You know how sometimes you just want to try a bunch of different things haha. I thought this would be a great order for those days. The portion was huge and the meat looked so delicious that it immediately caught my eye! hahaha

First on the grill: fresh flower galbi
The first thing we grilled was the fresh flower galbi! The fresh flower galbi had a particularly impressive, tender flavor! haha The juiciness just lingered in my mouth!

Eating it with the pickled onions, the sweetness of the onions and the flavor of the meat blended together and it was so enjoyable! And especially with this wasabi, it completely cut through any greasiness and made it taste clean and good! hahaha

Second: beef galbi-sal with seasoned raw crab
Next, we started grilling the beef galbi-sal! The beef galbi-sal had an impressively cleaner flavor~! It was chewy and so delicious! Oh, and that seasoned crab! After eating a bite of meat, having a bite of the seasoned crab that came as a basic side dish was such a great combination! haha I really felt again how important the side dishes are! Delicious beef galbi-sal~ looking back at it now, I want to eat it again!

Last: marinated idong galbi
Lastly, we started grilling the idong galbi! After the fresh flower galbi and beef galbi-sal, having the sweet and delicious seasoned idong galbi made for a great combination haha. We grilled it carefully, keeping a close eye on it so the seasoning wouldn't burn!!

Eating a bite of the delicious idong galbi put me in such a good mood haha. It was pleasantly sweet and the meat was tender to chew — it had been a while since I'd had idong galbi and it was so good~ We also had some zero-sugar cola along the way haha. I loved that Jeongwon Galbi has zero-sugar cola~~

Finishing the meal with doenjang jjigae
And you can't skip the doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew)!! Honestly, I was so full from the meat that I wondered if I could even eat doenjang jjigae, but of course it turned out to be the perfect way to finish the meal haha. A spoonful of the clean-tasting doenjang jjigae was refreshing and just right haha. It was a visit just with my mom, the two of us~ and we left having eaten the beef mixed platter until we were completely full!
Jeongwon Galbi, a galbi restaurant in Gwangju, Gyeonggi where I got to enjoy delicious, varied beef! The beef was great, the tables were spacious and comfortable, and the staff were friendly, so I had a peaceful and enjoyable meal! Next time, I'd like to try other menu items like sirloin or pork galbi~
