Gangnam restaurant for sweet potato cheese pork cutlet: Ikki Roll Katsu

In short

Ikki Roll Katsu is a Japanese-style cutlet restaurant near Sinsa Station in Gangnam, Seoul. The house-made sweet potato mousse, crisp cheese pork cutlet, and smoky brisket jjolmyeon were an especially great combination. Verdict: a lovely pick when you want an extra-cheesy pork cutlet in Sinsa.

I was watching Please Take Care of My Refrigerator over the weekend, and Jonathan said he likes gochi-don. I had not eaten it in a while either, so I suddenly got a craving and dashed over for some haha.

Once you spot Seongmi Building, you have arrived! Go down half a floor and it is right there. The pork cutlets in the photos already looked soooo deliciousㅠㅠㅠ. The visuals are insane, right?

It is in the basement, but not dark at all—everything was done in bright wood tones! There is also a restroom next to the waiting area, and it was clean!

There were mostly tables for two and four, and the overall style was bright and tidy haha.

Group reservation notice at Ikki Roll Katsu

They also said group reservations are possible. It looked like a nice place to come for a gathering or with work friends.

The water was tea rather than bottled water, so as someone who is not great at drinking plain water, I was very happy!

True to its name, there are sooo many kinds of pork cutlet: sweet potato cheese pork cutlet, chicken cheese roll katsu, rosé pork cutlet, fish cheese roll katsu, spicy cheese roll katsu, curry cheese roll katsu, kimchi cheese roll katsu, flying-fish-roe cheese roll katsu, and salad roll katsu. I came specifically for gochi-don, but all the other dishes looked delicious tooㅠㅠ.

The self-service bar had side dishes such as shredded radish and pickled radish, plus soup, clear soup, and black rice. You can get more if you need it, so I think you could leave absolutely full.

And apparently, if you leave a review, you can get takoyaki or a drink too! It would be nice to share when you come as a group.

The gochi-don and jjolmyeon looked 100% exactly like the photos posted at the entrance 🫢🤤

Soft, nutty sweet potato cheese pork cutlet

Ikki Roll Katsu says it tenderizes its meat the traditional way, pounding it with a mallet! The texture really was different. Some places use commercial sweet potato mousse that has that sort of machine-made taste, but they said they make their mousse too, which I liked even more. It was not overly sweet—just delicious, soft, and nutty...

A little rice and salad on the side! Both can be refilled.

Even the toppings on top were colorful and appetizing, right?

Salad-loaded flame-grilled brisket jjolmyeon with deep smoky flavor

And then there was the salad-loaded flame-grilled brisket jjolmyeon with absolutely crazy visuals! I tried a piece of brisket first, and the smoky flavor was incredible—it was restaurant-quality meat. Plus, there were quail eggs, cherry tomatoes, sprouts, carrots, cabbage, cucumber, and jjolmyeon!

The visuals are crazy... This combination was seriously so good, so please try it exactly this way. The sweet potato cheese pork cutlet had soft mousse and a crisp, juicy cutlet, while the jjolmyeon was spicy and tangy, so they went so well together.

How far is it going to stretch? There was plenty of cheese too, so it stretched with every bite. That means it stayed delicious right to the last bite!

And this pickled radish side dish was a little more refreshing than regular pickled radish, while the kimchi was fairly strongly seasoned—but eating it after the pork cutlet refreshed my palate. Koreans really do need kimchi.

The pork cutlet was large, and even the jjolmyeon on its own was completely delicious... Looking at the photos is making me want it again. Magic.
