Ocean-view café in Gangneung for corn ice cream: Baegya Coffee

In short

Baegya Coffee is an ocean-view bakery café near Sacheonjin and Gyeongpo beaches in Gangneung, Gangwon. I had oksigi ice cream, a KIRI cream cheese pretzel, and a green matcha latte on the third floor while looking out at the East Sea. The rich corn flavor and cozy interior stood out, though the outdoor terrace and rooftop are no-kids zones.

While traveling in Gangneung, I visited Baegya Coffee (백야커피) as a place to take a break while looking at the sea. I sat on the third floor and had drinks and desserts while looking out over the East Sea; the ocean view through the floor-to-ceiling windows and the cozy interior stayed with me.

Where is Baegya Coffee, and what is parking like?

Baegya Coffee is near Sacheonjin and Gyeongpo beaches. As I drove along the East Sea coast, I could spot the café from the main road. There was a large parking lot, so parking was not a concern on this visit.

The hours listed in the original post are 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with last orders at 8:30 PM. Group visits and takeout are available, and there are high chairs and separate restrooms for men and women.

What are the sea view and interior like?

Floors 1 through 3 are indoor spaces, while the fourth floor is an outdoor rooftop. I ordered, picked up my order, and returned my tray on the first floor.

When choosing cafés while traveling, I pay close attention to the view and atmosphere. Here, the wood-toned furniture and warm lighting worked with the sea view to create a cozy feel.

The outdoor terrace and fourth-floor rooftop offered open sea views. However, the outdoor areas are no-kids zones.

After picking up the drinks and baked goods I ordered, I took the elevator and settled on the third floor. Thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows, the East Sea came into view with just a slight turn of my head. Looking at the horizon and waves made for a nice pause during the trip.

What drinks and baked goods are available?

I could choose coffee beans according to my preference, with decaf and extra-shot options also available. There was a wide selection, including lattes, ade drinks, ice cream, and tea.

The bakery selection included cakes, salt bread, pretzels, and soboro (sweet crumb-topped bread), among other items. I felt the prices were reasonable for the taste and quality of the baked goods.

What did the oksigi ice cream and pretzel taste like?

I started with oksigi ice cream, one of the signature desserts. The ice cream captured corn's rich, nutty flavor well.

The KIRI cream cheese pretzel contained raspberry ripple jam. I could taste the smooth cream cheese alongside the raspberry's sweet-tart flavor, and it paired well with the green matcha latte I ordered.

What I liked most about this visit was being able to take my time looking at the sea while eating dessert. It was a moment to sit, watch the waves, and rest between a busy travel itinerary.
