Gangneung beach bakery café: Baegya Coffee by Sacheonjin Beach

In short

Baegya Coffee is a large bakery café directly in front of Sacheonjin Beach in Gangneung, Gangwon. I stopped by around 5 p.m. on a weekday for two breads, chocolate cake, and drinks; the spacious floors and bakery selection were good, but rain kept me from fully enjoying the sea view or visiting the rooftop.

How did I get to Baegya Coffee by Sacheonjin Beach?

On this trip to Gangneung, I visited Baegya Coffee (백야커피), directly in front of Sacheonjin Beach. It is a large bakery café a little away from the Gyeongpo and Gangmun beaches I usually visit.

While taking the Gangneung City Tour Bus toward Jumunjin Beach, I spotted a large café by the sea and saved it on my map. On the way back, I got off at the Sacheonjin Beach stop and visited.

What were the indoor space and terrace like?

Because the café uses the entire building, it felt spacious as soon as I walked in. The first floor felt open, and there was an elevator for moving between floors. In particular, the elevator had a shelf for setting down food and drinks, which made it easier to travel with a tray.

Each floor had slightly different seating arrangements and lighting, so it was enjoyable to look for a seat I liked.

There was seating on the terrace, too. On a cool day, I thought it would be nice to drink coffee outside while looking at the sea.

Could I enjoy the sea view on a rainy day?

Baegya Coffee is directly in front of Sacheonjin Beach, and the building is arranged so visitors can look out at the sea. However, it was raining and the weather was poor on the day I visited, so I could not fully enjoy the clear ocean scenery.

I had heard that the rooftop also has a lookout-like space with sea views. I forgot to go up that day, so I did not get to use it myself. If I return, I would like to look around the rooftop on a clear day.

What was the bakery selection and wait like at my visit?

There were more bakery options than I expected, so I spent a while deciding what to eat.

When I visited around 5 p.m. on a weekday, there was no wait and plenty of seating. I had been traveling since dawn and wanted something sweet, so I ordered two breads, one slice of cake, and drinks.

Considering that it is a large café by the sea, I found the drink and bakery prices relatively manageable.

How did ordering, dish returns, and packing leftover bread work?

After choosing the bread, I ordered and paid for it with my drinks on the first floor. A pager buzzed when the drinks were ready, and I picked them up myself on the first floor.

Afterward, I returned my dishes myself on the first floor. There was also a self-packing station on one side of each floor, which made it easy to take leftover bread with me.

At the time of my visit, ordering one drink per person was not required. I liked being able to choose a variety of bakery items I wanted rather than matching drinks to the number of people.

How were the two breads and chocolate cake I tried?

What was the texture of the Condensed Milk Pie like?

The Condensed Milk Pie had a familiar flavor, like something I had eaten somewhere before. It had distinct flaky layers like a pastry and crumbled crisply with each bite. The condensed milk also made it slightly chewy and cling to my teeth, with a clear sweetness.

What did the Soboro Pastry Twist taste like?

The Soboro Pastry Twist had a nutty, mild flavor on its own. The topping felt like lemon chocolate, adding a little tang and sweetness. Overall, it was not overpowering and was easy to eat.

Was the Valrhona Chocolate Bliss very sweet?

The Valrhona Chocolate Bliss was the kind of mousse cake I like. It had a chocolate flavor and was soft and moist.

It was sweet but not overly sweet for my taste. I also liked the chocolate coating on the outside, the crisp chocolate on top, and the richer chocolate layer inside.

All the breads and cake I had that day went well with an Americano.

Was it a good stop on a walk from Gyeongpo Beach?

After walking a little farther from the far end of Gyeongpo Beach toward Sacheonjin Beach, I came across Baegya Coffee. After spending time at the café, we kept walking toward Gyeongpo Beach. If you are looking for a bakery café near the sea on the Gyeongpo side, it is in a location worth considering as well.

The biggest disappointment of this visit was not being able to fully enjoy the sea view because of the rain. Still, its location directly in front of the beach, spacious interior, and terrace stayed with me.

The breads and cake I tried were all tasty overall. Tired from traveling since dawn, I was able to take a break with sweet bakery items and coffee.
