Danyang Gugyeong Market is an essential stop on any trip to Danyang.🧄 Walking through the whole market this time, I really felt how serious Danyang is about garlic haha. Garlic itself is a given, but there's garlic fried chicken, garlic bread, even black garlic bread!

That's the vibe — garlic's endless transformations everywhere in the market.😆🧄 From the moment I started walking toward the market, there was one box I kept seeing in people's hands. It wasn't just one or two people, everyone seemed to have it🤔, so I wondered what they were all buying so much of. Turned out it was the Danppang Bakery garlic bread set. I saw it from the parking lot all the way to the market, and kept seeing it inside too, so naturally my expectations went up.👀

Finally found Danppang Bakery🧄. The yellow sign stood out even from a distance, so it wasn't hard to find.💛 The closer I got, though, it was the people, not the sign, that caught my eye haha. Yep... the line was pretty long.😂

Ah..! So this is where everyone's been!ㅋㅋㅋ

Of all the places I stopped at in Danyang Gugyeong Market, Danppang Bakery had the longest line. But it moved faster than I expected. The staff seemed already used to long lines — their service was seriously quick.👍🏻✨ Box the bread, tidy up, wrap it, take the next customer! Chop chop chop chop. Their hands moved so fast it was almost like watching a human conveyor belt haha. Even while busy, they were friendly, so waiting felt pleasant.☺️

Watching them pack the 4-flavor set into a box one by one was an art.👍🏻 No lingering over one piece at all. Chop! Chop! Chop! Chop! Done! I'd tensed up a bit seeing the long line, but I got it right away once I saw how fast it moved.🤣👏🏻👍🏻

Maybe because it's been featured on several TV shows, the place was especially busy even by market standards.👀 Garlic bread, black garlic, and cream cheese all together!🧄 That's a combination that really nails the Danyang identity.👍🏻

Danyang really does mean garlic!🧄 Garlic's presence is unmistakable all over the market.😂 I happened to visit on Liberation Day🇰🇷, and it was nice to see Taegukgi (Korean flags) all over the market.☺️

Garlic breads kept getting refilled right in front of me.🧄 With each type lined up side by side, I finally got to look at them properly.👀 As soon as they came out of the oven, they went straight into customers' boxes haha. The bread disappears just as fast as the line moves.😂

Cream piled thick between the slashes.🤍 Even from afar you could tell they weren't stingy with it. A menu that screams 'I'm garlic bread' right from the visual haha. Whole garlic cloves sitting on top caught my eye too.

The height of the stacked boxes was unreal haha.📦📦📦 It made me curious how many boxes would find an owner today.😂

At Danppang Bakery you can try four garlic breads, each with its own charm, all at once.👍🏻💛 I tried them one by one, and even though they're all garlic bread, changing up the cream or topping made each one feel quite different.✨💛 All four had a fairly generous amount of cream or filling inside.🤤 At this point I couldn't tell if the bread was holding the cream or the cream was wearing the bread haha🤔🤣.

Cream cheese garlic bread

Cream cheese garlic bread🧀🧄. White cream cheese was packed neatly between the slashes.🤤 The sweet, salty flavor of the garlic sauce combined with the soft, nutty cream cheese made it much smoother to eat overall. It's less about a strong garlic punch and more about that sweet-and-nutty feel with the cream cheese. So if you prefer soft, creamy garlic bread over a strong garlic flavor, this one will probably suit you best.

Black garlic cream cheese garlic bread

Black garlic cream cheese garlic bread🖤🧄. Of the four, this one stood out visually the most. You can't skip black garlic when you've come all the way to Danyang.🧄 Compared to the regular cream cheese version, it had a richer, deeper flavor from the black garlic's heavier character. That said, the black garlic taste wasn't overly strong or sharp. Personally I liked the cream cheese and black garlic versions about equally, but if you want to try something a bit different among the four, the black garlic one would be the fun pick.

Sweet potato custard garlic bread, my top pick

Sweet potato custard garlic bread🍠🧄. Of the four, this was my favorite.🍠 At first I thought:

All three in one bread? haha. But once I tried it, this combination was actually the most fun for my taste.👍🏻 The sweet, moist feel of sweet potato and custard, with a hint of garlic's savory saltiness added, keeps the sweetness from running on too long and gives it a nice sweet-salty balance.🍠🧄 The filling inside was quite generous too, so the moist texture really came through with the first bite.😋 I'd bought a lot of food at the market that day so I didn't eat the bread right away, but even after some time had passed, the filled part still felt moist. If I had to pick just one of the four again, I'd go with the sweet potato custard!🙋🏻‍♀️ Second would be the baguette garlic bread.

Baguette garlic bread, crisp outside and soft inside

Baguette garlic bread🧄. Along with the sweet potato one, this was the other standout of the four. The outside was slightly crisp and the inside stayed moist, which matched what I'd imagined garlic bread should feel like the best. It's soaked in a sweet, salty garlic sauce with a clear garlic flavor, so if you like garlic bread that's crisp outside and moist inside, I'd recommend trying this one first among the four.🧄 Eating it together with the whole garlic clove on top makes the garlic presence even more definite.

Dad ended up buying garlic seed bulbs at the market too

Walking around Danyang Gugyeong Market, it's less that garlic is 'just' a local specialty and more like the whole market is hanging heavy with garlic haha. Seeing it piled up like that really made it feel like Danyang. Garlic in the bread, garlic in the fried chicken, and off to one side of the market, actual garlic piled high.🧄🧄🧄 My dad, who'd been eyeing it closely, eventually...

...bought garlic seed bulbs hahahaha. I know nothing about farming so I just listened in, and apparently if you plant them this year, you can eat them next year.🧄 Hearing something so obvious — plant it in the ground and it becomes garlic next year — I still somehow found it fascinating since I know nothing about farming.🤣😆
