Pyeongtaek Korean restaurant: mild kalguksu set, Goryeo Mulchong

I visited Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu (고려물총칼국수) on Pyeongnam-ro in Pyeongtaek with my child. We ordered the two-person set, and the mild broth was what I remembered most. My child, who finds strong seasonings difficult, was able to eat it comfortably too.

What is the atmosphere like for a family meal?

The restaurant felt comfortable as soon as we walked in. The interior was neither flashy nor trend-driven, but it felt welcoming and easygoing for a family meal.

Is the kalguksu broth mild enough for children?

From the first spoonful, the kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) broth was mild and clean-tasting rather than strongly seasoned. It did not become heavy even as I kept drinking it, and the clam broth had a subtle savory flavor. It was lightly seasoned without tasting bland.

To me, it tasted as though it did not use much seasoning powder. I did not confirm whether that was actually the case; it was simply my impression from the broth. My child, who has difficulty with spicy food or strong seasoning, ate the kalguksu comfortably this time.

Was the two-person set filling enough?

When ordering, I worried that it might not be enough, but it was sufficient for us once it arrived. Having the set dishes alongside the kalguksu let us alternate between different flavors. The selection also felt substantial for the price.

Do the albaechu mandu go well with kalguksu?

The albaechu mandu (tender cabbage dumplings) included in the set were generously filled, with the cabbage retaining a crisp texture. They were good to alternate with the kalguksu, and I also liked lightly dipping the dumplings in the mild broth.

Would I return with older family members?

I ate here with my child this time, but I thought it would also be nice to bring my parents, who find strongly seasoned food burdensome. The mild broth and albaechu mandu went well together, and the set was filling enough that I would like to have it again with family members who enjoy lightly seasoned food.
