Daegu Korean restaurant family meal: Sin Yeongung Cheonggukjang

I visited Sin Yeongung Cheonggukjang Haemulttukbaegi Seongseo Moda Outlet branch (신영웅청국장해물뚝배기 성서모다아울렛점) for a family meal near Daegu Moda Outlet. We ordered seafood ttukbaegi (seafood stew in an earthenware pot) with live abalone, pork cutlet for the children, and seafood chive pancake to share.

Is it close to Moda Outlet and easy to park?

The restaurant is on the first floor at 27 Seongseogongdan-ro 15-gil, Dalseo-gu, Daegu, South Korea. It is close to Moda Outlet, making it well located for a meal before or after shopping.

There is parking in front of the restaurant, but it was not plentiful. Moda Outlet Public Parking Lot 2 offered one hour of free parking, and it connected to the restaurant’s rear entrance, so getting there was convenient.

Is it suitable for children or group meals?

The restaurant’s introduction emphasizing quality ingredients caught my eye. Its description says it selects seafood from Wando, Tongyeong, and Namhae, which made me look forward to the seafood ttukbaegi.

Baby dining chairs were available for guests with children.

For after-meal coffee, there were two options: brewed coffee and instant coffee.

The interior was neatly arranged, and the wide spacing between tables made the meal comfortable. The separate rooms used accordion doors to adjust the space for the number of people. I thought it would work well for family dining or gatherings.

What did we order for a family meal?

We ordered two seafood ttukbaegi with live abalone, pork cutlet, and seafood chive pancake. The cutlet could be ordered as old-fashioned pork cutlet or on its own without other sides, and we chose the pork cutlet on its own.

The side dishes were neatly served and suited my taste. We could bring more side dishes from the self-service bar if we needed them.

How was the pork cutlet ordered for the children?

When I cut off and tried a piece, tender meat was inside the crisp coating. It had a pleasant chew, and the sauce suited our taste, so the children ate it well.

How was the seafood chive pancake?

The seafood chive pancake was larger than I expected and arrived nicely browned. It was crisp outside, moist and chewy inside. There was a generous amount of seafood, including squid and shrimp, which made it enjoyable to chew.

Dipping it lightly in chojang (sweet-and-tangy chili vinegar sauce) brought together nutty and savory flavors. I wished I could have had a beer with it, but I had to drive.

How were the broth and seafood in the live-abalone seafood ttukbaegi?

The dish I was most looking forward to was the seafood ttukbaegi with live abalone. When it arrived, I could see the abalone moving, and the hot earthenware pot held various seafood, including scallops, shrimp, and crab.

The broth was pleasantly spicy and refreshing, with a clean, mild finish. I did not notice any fishiness. It was fun picking out and eating the seafood one by one, and finishing the whole bowl left me satisfied.

The adults could have hot seafood ttukbaegi while the children ate pork cutlet, so it worked well as a family meal. The seafood chive pancake we shared was memorable too.
