Beef barbecue restaurant in Buk, Daegu for a family meal: Gogi 9dan

The three of us—my parents and I—visited Gogi 9dan Chimsan Direct Branch (고기9단 침산직영점) in Chimsan-dong, Daegu. We had kkotgalbisal with several side dishes, and I remember the tender beef and the wide variety of banchan (Korean side dishes).

How are the parking and facilities for a family meal?

The restaurant is at 197 Chimsannam-ro, Buk-gu, Daegu, South Korea. It has a large parking lot, and there were plenty of spaces when I visited, so parking was easy.

The interior was spacious, with plenty of room between tables. There was separate group seating, as well as high chairs and a playroom, so I thought it would work well for family gatherings or meals with children. The overall atmosphere felt cozy and neat.

There were many diners even on a Monday evening. Still, perhaps because the tables were well spaced, I could eat comfortably with my parents without feeling disturbed by neighboring tables.

What did three adults order?

The menu centers on beef, but it also includes samgyeopsal (pork belly) and moksal (pork neck). We ordered one 500g platter of kkotgalbisal, the Gogi 9dan Set, one siraegi sotbap (pot rice with dried radish greens), and one bowl of rice. We also added an order of yukhoe (seasoned raw beef) during the meal.

How were the side dishes and kkotgalbisal?

There was a generous, neatly presented selection of side dishes. I found myself trying them one by one even before grilling the meat, and there were plenty to eat alongside it throughout the meal. The seasoned raw crab was large and had a lightly sweet sauce. At the time of my visit, it could be refilled once.

We ordered the kkotgalbisal as a 500g platter. The amount on the platter felt generous, and its marbling stood out before grilling. We put it on the grill and ate it without cooking it for too long.

The beef had a pleasant meaty flavor and a tender texture. Personally, I was satisfied with its quality for the price, and it was good to share generously with my parents.

What comes in the Gogi 9dan Set?

The Gogi 9dan Set includes pork stew, yukhoe, sushi rice, and jjolmyeon (chewy spicy mixed noodles). I liked being able to try several accompaniments at once while eating the meat.

Among the set dishes, I especially liked the yukhoe. The seasoning was neither overly sweet nor salty, with just the right savory flavor for my taste. My father liked it too, so we ordered an additional serving of yukhoe.

At the time of the original post, the standalone yukhoe was ₩12,000 for 80g. The extra yukhoe was also well seasoned and paired nicely with the vinegared sushi rice served with it. The jjolmyeon was tangy and spicy, making it a good accompaniment between bites of meat.

With the pork stew as well, we alternated between the beef, yukhoe, jjolmyeon, stew, and rice. I was satisfied with how the set let us sample several different dishes.

How filling are the siraegi pot rice and dessert?

The siraegi pot rice was freshly cooked and contained plenty of siraegi. It went well with the meat, and I also liked the special sauce served separately.

With the variety of side dishes and the generous amount of meat, all three of us were full after adding the extra yukhoe. Patbingsu (shaved ice with sweet red beans), puffed rice snacks, and coffee were available after the meal. We finished with patbingsu and coffee.

Would I visit again with my parents?

Although the restaurant was busy, the staff responded quickly and took care of what we needed, so we were comfortable throughout the meal. With ample parking and seating plus a varied selection of side dishes, I was satisfied bringing my parents here for a meal. On a future visit, I would want to have the yukhoe again, since it suited my taste so well.
