Sokcho sashimi takeout near Jungang Market: Han's Kitchen platter

In short

Han's Kitchen Hoepojang Sokcho Jungang Market Branch (한스키친 회포장 속초중앙시장본점) is a raw fish (hoe) takeout shop on Cheongchoho-banro in Sokcho, Gangwon. We booked a mixed sashimi platter of half halibut, half rockfish and half flounder through a Naver advance reservation and collected it at Han's Fish Market at the booked time, with chojang (red chili sauce), soy sauce and wasabi included so it was ready to eat back at our accommodation. Easy to reach, fresh and generously put together, Han's Kitchen is a place worth booking again.

One thing you can't skip on a trip to Sokcho is fresh sashimi. On this trip, I wanted to enjoy it comfortably back at the accommodation, so I visited Han's Kitchen Hoepojang Sokcho Jungang Market Branch, known as a sashimi takeout spot near Sokcho Jungang Market.

I wanted to browse the market and then relax at the accommodation for dinner, so I went with sashimi takeout — and it turned out to be a satisfying choice overall.

It's in a convenient spot for travelers to visit after wandering around the market, and if you're driving, the nearby public parking lots make it fairly easy to visit. Since it's near the market, it can get a bit crowded on weekends or during peak season, so I'd recommend allowing a little extra time.

Han's Kitchen is takeout only, preparing fresh live fish and seafood delivered that same day with a quick turnover. A chef with years of experience personally handles the sashimi, and you can conveniently package your order through a Naver advance reservation.

  • Reservation: Naver advance reservation preferred, same-day phone reservation possible
  • Pickup: Han's Suhyup Market
  • Specialty: same-day live fish sashimi, mixed live fish platters

True to a takeout specialty shop, the space had a clean, efficient layout. There's no large dining hall or private rooms, but the interior felt tidy and hygienically managed. The staff were friendly too, making the whole process from ordering to pickup pleasant.

Most customers seemed to visit after reserving and then take their order to go. The wait wasn't long, so it was easy to stop by even in the middle of a travel itinerary.

How were the fish tanks and the origin labels?

On one side of the shop, the origin labeling board was neatly organized. It listed origins for the main fish and seafood — halibut, rockfish, yellowtail, flounder, abalone, sea squirt, and octopus — so I could order with peace of mind.

The tanks were also kept clean. I could see live fish swimming directly in them, and it was impressive to see steady oxygen supply and water quality management in action. A sterilizing water purifier was installed above the tanks, which gave the sense that hygiene was being taken seriously.

Seeing the well-managed live fish and clean tank conditions built even more trust in the sashimi, and made the space feel like a place I could expect genuinely fresh seafood from.

How to book and pick up a platter through Naver

We also placed our order in advance through Naver's reservation service. We arrived right at our reserved time, paid, and picked up the order immediately.

How the halibut, rockfish and flounder platter tasted

The menu we ordered was a mixed platter made up of halibut, rockfish, and flounder.

The sashimi was overall really fresh — the texture won me over from the very first bite. The halibut had a chewy bite with a faint sweetness, making it the most easygoing to enjoy. The rockfish had thick, springy flesh with a satisfying chew, and the more I chewed, the more savory flavor came through, which was impressive. The flounder had a chewy yet tender texture, and its clean, light flavor kept me reaching for more without any heaviness.

Underneath the sashimi, instead of shredded radish, there was a generous bed of cabbage, and they thoughtfully included everything needed — chojang (vinegared chili paste), soy sauce, and wasabi. Thanks to that, we could eat right away back at the accommodation without preparing anything extra.

Even though it was all sashimi, each fish had its own texture and flavor, so it was fun to switch between them, and we could really feel that distinctive chewy texture of fresh live-fish sashimi.
