Jongak Chinese restaurant, weekend tomato egg stir-fry: Cheonghwa

Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon: a different kind of Chinese meal near Jongak Station

I wanted something different from the usual Chinese food near Jongak Station, so I went to Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon. I generally love noodle dishes, and while looking for a place near Jongak Station where I could try dosakmyeon (knife-cut noodles) properly, I ended up here :) I was really excited to try a menu that's a bit different from a typical Chinese restaurant!!

Being right by Jongak Station and Gwanghwamun, the place was pretty busy even on a weekend. Apparently it's packed with office workers on weekdays.

What's on the menu at Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon

Uyuk dosakmyeon is the main dish, but there were plenty of other options too, so it was great for ordering a variety.

• [Fried] Quabaorou, fried eggplant, yurinji, cream shrimp, chili shrimp, kkanpunggi
• [Stir-fried] Mala tofu, tomato egg stir-fry, gyeongjang yukseul, tiger stir-fry, cumin beef, suju-yukpyeon, lazi chicken
• [Cold dishes] Refreshing cold salad, refreshing cucumber salad, Sichuan-style chicken

How the three-dish order — noodles, stir-fry, fried — worked out

Noodles alone felt like it wouldn't be enough, so I ordered a couple more dishes, and the combination of the three turned out really well. The soup noodles, the stir-fry, and the fried dish each had their own charm, so I thought it'd be great for sharing between a few people if you visit together :)

Uyuk dosakmyeon (beef knife-cut noodles)

I tried the broth first, and it had a rich, deep flavor overall that I really liked. But what I liked most was, of course, the noodles. They had a chewy, springy texture that made them really enjoyable to eat.

Ta-da! Here are the noodles,,! So chewy that I keep thinking about them again.

Tomato egg stir-fry

You get that distinctive tangy, slightly sweet tomato flavor, and I loved how taking a bite of the tomato egg stir-fry after eating the uyuk dosakmyeon totally shifted the mood in my mouth. Because of the tomato, the dish felt light and refreshing rather than heavy overall! For reference, I really don't like tomatoes, and even I enjoyed this dish.

Fried eggplant

I usually have mixed feelings about eggplant because of its mushy texture depending on how it's cooked, but frying it completely changes the texture, so even people who don't like eggplant could probably eat this comfortably. It was properly crispy outside and tender inside, a really tasty fried eggplant!! I felt like I'd found a great Chinese restaurant near Jongak *_*

Trying dosakmyeon for the first time near Jongak Station

Eating near Jongak Station, I often end up picking the same kind of menu, but this time, choosing something a bit different made the whole meal really satisfying. I think dosakmyeon in particular is a great dish to try if it's not something you're familiar with. If you want chewy dosakmyeon and a variety of Chinese dishes, I recommend Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon — a Gwanghwamun office workers' favorite / Jongak Chinese restaurant!!
