Gyodae Station gimbap shop, 30-minute office lunch for one: Halls
In short
Halls Gimbap Main Branch (홀스김밥본점) is a gimbap and Korean snack shop near Gyodae Station in Seocho, Seoul. On a first solo lunch visit, the writer ordered the half-and-half combo of classic Halls gimbap and double cheese egg gimbap with a side of dakgangjeong (sweet crispy fried chicken); the fillings were fresh and generous, and the dakgangjeong was as crispy as any chicken specialist's. With self-ordering and fast turnover, Halls Gimbap Main Branch is a solid pick for office workers eating lunch alone near Gyodae Station.

Why I picked Halls Gimbap Main Branch for a solo lunch near Gyodae Station
I chose Halls Gimbap Main Branch (홀스김밥본점) while looking for somewhere near Gyodae Station where I could eat lunch alone, quickly and without pressure. Naver Map flagged it as a place with lots of repeat customers, so I stopped in for a first visit.
Ever get worn out hunting for a lunch spot around Gyodae Station? I had business in the area for the first time in a while, and by the time I finished it was right at lunchtime and I was starving. I wanted somewhere easy to walk into alone and quick to eat and leave, so I searched around. That's how I found Halls Gimbap Main Branch. Naver Map said it had lots of repeat customers, and I thought, how good can it be?! So I went straight over :)

Where is Halls Gimbap Main Branch, and what is the solo seating like?
Halls Gimbap Main Branch is within a 5-minute walk of Gyodae Station, so it's easy to reach. It didn't feel awkward at all to come alone, and the seats are laid out so they work like single seats, which lowered the barrier to eating solo :)

(It was busy with customers, so I used a photo of the outdoor terrace seating instead!)
What's on the menu at Halls Gimbap Main Branch?

The menu has plenty of gimbap (seaweed rice rolls) refined in Halls' own style, like konjac minari gimbap and Jindo scallion tuna gimbap. Looking at the menu inside, there were so many options that I struggled to decide what to order. Every picture looked delicious, which made choosing even harder.

First-visit order: half-and-half Halls gimbap and double cheese egg gimbap
Since it was my first visit, I wanted to try the most basic Halls gimbap, and I also wanted the popular double cheese egg gimbap, so I ordered them as a half-and-half set :)

The house broth here is a bonito (katsuobushi) broth, and you can also order ramyeon (instant noodles), so you can have the salty-sweet combo of ramyeon and gimbap together.

Is dakgangjeong from a gimbap shop really good?
This time I skipped the ramyeon and had gimbap with dakgangjeong instead. Halls fries its dakgangjeong really well, crispy like a chicken specialty restaurant. Honestly, when I first saw the "Warning: too delicious" printed on the box, I thought, how good can gimbap-shop fried chicken be? I was so wrong. Watch out, it vanishes in a flash 🤣 I regretted not ordering the L size~ sigh...
How fresh are the ingredients in Halls Gimbap Main Branch's gimbap?

The gimbap comes out right after you order, so the vegetables were still crunchy, and the rolls were packed with filling. I think ingredient freshness is half the flavor of gimbap. If the vegetables are limp or the egg is dry, the whole thing falls flat, but Halls left me very satisfied on that front.
The rolls were wrapped well without being soggy, and the fillings were really hearty. A roll with skimpy filling feels kind of empty, but there was none of that here. It was packed full, and the amount of rice was just right.
Why I recommend Halls Gimbap Main Branch for a solo lunch near Gyodae Station

There are a few reasons I recommend Halls Gimbap Main Branch for a solo lunch near Gyodae Station.
- Ordering is self-service, so there's no feeling of being watched by staff.
- Turnover is fast, so you don't wait long. If you have 30 to 40 minutes for lunch, that's enough to eat and head out.
- Sitting alone feels natural. When I went, quite a few other people were dining solo too.
- The price isn't a burden. It's a full meal at a reasonable price, so it looks easy to drop by often.
If you work around Gyodae, it's worth adding to your lunch rotation :)
Verdict: why this Gyodae gimbap spot stuck with me

Halls Gimbap Main Branch takes an ordinary dish, gimbap, and makes it special with fresh, generous ingredients. Honestly, I went in without big expectations. Gimbap is hard to get wrong and also hard to make特别 good, right? But Halls beat that ordinariness. I got the feeling they don't skimp on fresh ingredients and cook with real care, and that's where the flavor comes from.
I can confidently recommend it to anyone wondering where to eat solo near Gyodae Station. It's not flashy, but it feels like a reliable neighborhood favorite..?! I'll definitely stop by again next time I'm around Gyodae.
