I was out at Dongmyo today and got a craving for Indian food, so I stopped by Namaste🙏🙏 It's right in front of Dongmyo Station Exit 5, so the accessibility is unbeatable. Since it's on the 2nd floor, you can spot this friendly sign right from the ground floor. Following it up the stairs...
...I found an entrance with a strong exotic vibe. There was a big halal food mark on it, and the restroom sign was colorful and cute haha
Even the door handle at the entrance gave off that traditional Indian aura. Once you open the door, the local Indian decor pieces and exotic music blend together so well I wondered if this is exactly what it feels like to walk into a restaurant in India.
Inside Namaste Dongmyo Branch: what the dining room looks like
I came in after the lunch rush and before dinner got going, so I got lucky and caught the place all tidy.
The tables and chairs, plus the artwork covering the walls and the lighting, all had that unmistakable Indian feel. Wow, right in front of Dongmyo Station and yet somehow it's India in here🙊
It was decorated so beautifully!! Is this kind of eye for design something you're born with...? The colors were gorgeous, it really felt like a restaurant in India (I've never been to India)

Wow, I've never seen so many Blue Ribbon awards in one place, so cool😆 Namaste has proudly earned the Blue Ribbon nine years running since 2018, which speaks to how authentic the food is.

We were seated at a window seat. There were leafy green trees outside, and it was so close to Dongmyo Station that I could actually see the subway exit through the window, which cracked me up lol

The menu was way more extensive than I expected. I love Indian curry and eat it out often, but I'd never seen a place with this many curry options. I wanted to try everything but obviously couldn't, so I just went with the easy option: the couple set for two.

First up, chicken tikka 4pcs & shrimp chilli. I'm not usually a fan of dark meat but the chicken tikka was surprisingly tender, so I ended up eating 2 whole pieces; the shrimp chilli was, well, so-so.
This was my first time trying vegetable curry at an Indian restaurant. It was packed with all kinds of vegetables and had a really healthy flavor.
Today's favorite dish: chicken makhani
Today's favorite was the chicken makhani. Whenever I go to an Indian restaurant I always order butter curry, and this tasted almost identical. So, so good! Piled on top of garlic naan, it's pure bliss😇
Next, the samosa. Samosa is a street snack made by folding a mix of spiced potato, peas, onion and more into a triangle and deep-frying it. When I split the triangle open, a yellow curry-like filling showed through. Dipped in the sauce that came with it, it was crispy and delicious. And the lassi tasted like plain yogurt — I love yogurt so much I could've had it all in one gulp haha
Is the couple set enough food for two people?
It didn't look like a lot at first, but by the end I was completely full. The couple set was just the right amount for two! Namaste Dongmyo Branch is a great spot for lunch or dinner after checking out the currently-trending Dongmyo flea market and Dongdaemun's stationery-and-toy street. It also does takeout and delivery, so it's a good way to enjoy that spicy-sweet, authentic curry taste at home or outdoors too. Namaste🙏
