Sindang chicken restaurant with open-air yard seating: Obang Tongdak
In short
Obang Tongdak is a rotisserie chicken restaurant between Sindang Station and Dongmyo Station in Jung-gu, Seoul, with a wide-open, yard-style seating area one floor down. A whole golden rotisserie chicken with draft beer and an order of gim (dried seaweed) came with six-clove garlic, garlic chips and mushrooms stuffed inside the bird, all good enough to snack on by themselves. Obang Tongdak's chicken was so good that a second whole one went home as takeout.

A place where I could enjoy the retro space and open-air yard vibe with a golden rotisserie chicken and a cold draft beer.
There are so many new restaurants and bars popping up in Sindang these days that it's hard to decide where to go for dinner. This time I didn't want anything too elaborate — just cold draft beer and chicken — and I'd heard about a spot with an open-air yard feel, so I went to Obang Tongdak's Sindang location. The combo of a whole golden rotisserie chicken and draft beer made for a great dinner, and I liked it enough to pack a second chicken to take home — a real find for outdoor chicken-and-beer in Sindang.
Where is Obang Tongdak, and what are its hours and parking?
Obang Tongdak sits roughly halfway between Sindang Station and Dongmyo Station. It's open daily from 5:00 PM to 11:30 PM. I parked at the nearby Seongdong Technical High School public parking lot, and since it's not far from Sindang Central Market, it looked like a good stop to pair with a market visit.

The entrance of Obang Tongdak, a favorite for open-air chicken-and-beer in Sindang. There are outdoor tables right by the entrance, great for enjoying chimaek (chicken and beer) outside on a nice day. Beyond those outdoor tables, there's another spot to soak up the Sindang yard vibe — just head inside and down one floor.

Right by the entrance, you can watch the chickens roasting away. Unlike typical fried chicken, Obang Tongdak's specialty is rotisserie-style whole chicken cooked over an electric spit. The outside turns golden brown while the inside stays moist, and it's lighter than fried chicken — a style I personally prefer.

Inside Obang Tongdak and the open-air yard seating one floor down
Once you step inside, the retro feel from the exterior carries through. It keeps the nostalgic look of an old-school rotisserie chicken shop while still feeling trendy, matching Sindang-dong's current vibe.

Even on an early weekend evening, quite a few tables were already filled. It seemed like a great spot for a Sindang date or a second-round hangout.

On the stairs leading downstairs, there's a phrase that translates to something like "the golden path of life" — a small detail that really shows off the retro concept. Even just the staircase felt worth photographing.
Head down one floor, and you'll see what makes Obang Tongdak really special.

It's indoors, but wide open, giving you that outdoor-yard feeling for chimaek. Unlike a typical enclosed restaurant, the openness here really delivers that breezy yard atmosphere. The chicken is great, but if you're after that open-air vibe, this space alone would satisfy you.

Retro-style knickknacks are scattered around the space too, fun to look at while you wait.
How was the golden rotisserie chicken with draft beer?

Our golden rotisserie chicken (황금통닭). The whole bird comes out beautifully browned — living up to its "golden" name with an appetizing golden hue. It has a different charm from crispy fried chicken; if you like the clean, savory flavor of rotisserie-style chicken, you might even prefer it to fried.

Look closer and you'll notice the chicken doesn't come alone — it's served with whole garlic cloves and a generous pile of garlic chips. Garlic pairs so well with chicken, and eating it alongside the garlic chips underneath was a real treat. Topping the roasted chicken with garlic added a nutty flavor to the clean chicken meat that kept me reaching for more.

The sauce that came with it was also quite good. Rotisserie chicken can start to taste plain after a while, but dipping it in the sauce every so often adds a sweet-salty kick that changes things up.

I ordered a draft beer too, and paired with the golden, well-roasted chicken, it couldn't have gone wrong. The draft was well kept and tasted great — this place really is excellent for that Sindang open-air chimaek experience.

Mushrooms inside the chicken and the gim (dried seaweed) add-on
As I kept eating, I noticed what was stuffed inside the golden chicken. There were plenty of mushrooms inside, soaked up in the chicken's juices and flavor — surprisingly delicious, more than I expected. The golden chicken isn't just a whole roasted bird — it comes with extras to enjoy alongside, and even after finishing the chicken, I could keep snacking on the leftover mushrooms and garlic like anju.

I noticed gim (dried seaweed) was available as an add-on, so I tried it. The salty, nutty flavor of the gim goes well with the clean chicken meat, and wrapping it with garlic or mushrooms turns the golden chicken into something like a simple wrap. Rimi loves gim, so we ordered it — and it was a very successful combination.

Why a second whole chicken went home as takeout
It was better than I expected, so I packed an extra golden chicken to take home. Reheating it in an air fryer at home still makes for a tasty meal. The takeout chicken was good too, but Obang Tongdak's real charm shines brightest when you're enjoying a freshly roasted golden chicken with draft beer in that retro, wide-open yard space.
If you're in Sindang looking for something a bit different from ordinary franchise fried chicken, or hunting for a Sindang chicken spot to enjoy chimaek outdoors on a cool evening, this place is worth a visit. There's fun in eating the garlic and mushrooms tucked inside the golden chicken, and adding the gim lets you enjoy the chicken in a slightly different way — recommended for anyone searching for good food around Sindang or Dongmyo.
