Seongnam rice bowl spot: beef and pork belly bowls at Godai Kitchen
In short
Godai Kitchen Lunch Special is a Japanese home-style rice bowl (donburi) restaurant on basement level 1 of Samhwan Hi-Pex Building A in Sampyeong-dong, Seongnam, near Pangyo. On a business trip to Pangyo, the writer and a coworker visited at 11am on a weekday and tried the beef rice bowl (₩15,000) and the signature pork belly rice bowl (₩14,500), plus homemade chicken karaage and extra black rice on the side. Godai Kitchen is popular enough with local office workers to fill up by 11:30am, and 2 hours of free parking in the building makes it easy to reach by car.

This post is a review of Godai Kitchen Lunch Special in Sampyeong-dong, with the menu and prices. Yesterday I had a work trip to Pangyo, so I was back in Sampyeong-dong on a weekday for the first time in a while. I went with a coworker! We'd heard there was a place that does great Japanese rice bowls, so we went for a hearty bowl piled high with meat. Godai Kitchen Lunch Special was the restaurant I was happiest with: parking is easy, the prices are reasonable, and above all the food was delicious. The menu is varied and the atmosphere feels like being in Japan, which made the Japanese food even more enjoyable! Now, here's my honest review.

What kind of place is Godai Kitchen?
100 bowls a day!! Godai is a Japanese food specialist!! Godai Kitchen is a Japanese home-style restaurant that puts real care into turning a meal in a busy, tiring day into something a little different. Their philosophy is not to just get a meal over with, but to give you a properly made bowl that leaves you satisfied!! Every dish is cooked to order, and they say they add depth with house-made sauces and richly flavored broth!

Full by 11:30 on weekdays: the atmosphere inside
Here's the interior of Godai Kitchen, shot by me. The restaurant is spacious, clean and comfortable. I arrived around 11, and by about 11:30 every seat was taken, which surprised me. It seems to be very popular with office workers nearby! I was glad to have found a place like this ^_^

What comes with the ₩15,000 beef rice bowl
The beef rice bowl has arrived. Beef with tare (sweet soy glaze) sauce, rice, a warm soup, fresh wasabi, pickled radish and kimchi!! It also comes with an onsen tamago (hot spring egg) as standard!! I loved how much beef was piled on top!!
I also filmed the whole spread on video.

Signature pork belly rice bowl (₩14,500): how it tastes
This is the signature pork belly rice bowl, topped with hando (Korean native pork) pork belly and tare sauce, with rice, warm broth, fresh wasabi, pickled radish, kimchi and an onsen tamago!! I liked that there was so much pork belly on top! The savory umami is a work of art ^_^ It was delicious!!

Side of homemade chicken karaage and extra black rice
As sides, I added one order of homemade chicken karaage and an extra bowl of rice!! The chicken tasted like real chicken from a proper fried chicken shop, not air-fried stuff, which I liked. The rice was black rice too, which made it even better ^_^
Wrap-up
That was my honest review of lunch at Godai Kitchen in Sampyeong-dong. If you're looking for a good Japanese restaurant in Sampyeong-dong, definitely stop by here! It's REAL delicious ^_^
