Euljiro black pork tonkatsu: gabrisal loin katsu set, Hunta Euljiro

In short

Hunta Euljiro is a black pork katsu restaurant on the first floor of the Fastfive building near Exit 1-1 of Euljiro-ipgu Station in Jung-gu, Seoul, and it made the Daedon Yeojido list of Korea's top 100 katsu restaurants. The limited-quantity premium loin katsu set (17,000 won), with its strip of gabrisal (the fatty cap along the loin), plus a cheese katsu side (3,500 won), eaten with pepper and scallion kimchi, never felt greasy down to the last piece. For a proper black pork tonkatsu lunch in Euljiro, Hunta Euljiro is the one to try.

Five years of know-how from a katsu-obsessed owner and the reputation of the Daedon Yeojido top 100 katsu list — Hunta, a black pork katsu specialist in Euljiro where savory fat and juices burst out

I'm usually pretty serious about tonkatsu, so I go hunting for famous katsu spots! This time I heard a place had opened in Euljiro that made it onto Korea's leading katsu influencer Donbanggu's <Daedon Yeojido> list of the nation's top 100 katsu restaurants, so I went to check it out. It's on the 1st floor of the Fastfive Building, a 2-minute walk from Exit 1-1 of Euljiro-ipgu Station on Line 2 — perfect for office workers in the area grabbing lunch.

and the owner and staff greeted us so kindly that I settled in happily.

Hunta Euljiro is a black pork katsu specialist that concentrates the craftsmanship of an owner who spent five years touring famous katsu shops across Japan and Korea studying the craft!

They only use carefully selected premium black pork breeds, which are tricky to handle because of cost and management, and apparently deliver a completely different level of flavor thanks to precise aging and frying techniques.

At lunch, a lot of Euljiro office workers come by, and in the evening it's also a great quiet spot for a date or a get-together.

How did the premium loin katsu set with gabrisal taste?

Full premium loin katsu set at Hunta Euljiro

Hunta Euljiro's premium loin katsu (sangnosseu) set is ₩17,000. It's Hunta's signature limited-quantity menu item, so I ordered it without hesitation! It's a katsu fried from a tiny amount of a special cut — gabrisal attached to the top of the loin.

The golden-brown, neat presentation looked delicious just to look at. The savory smell of frying wafted up and made my mouth water before I'd even taken a bite.

One bite in, savory oil along with moist, rich black pork juices burst through my mouth — genuinely delicious tonkatsu.

Pepper on the fatty part of the premium loin katsu, and scallion kimchi on the side

I tried sprinkling the pepper set on the table lightly over the fatty part of the premium loin katsu, and it cleanly neutralized the richness while boosting the savory depth.

On top of that, the pungent scallion kimchi (pa-gimchi) that comes as a basic side dish was a stroke of genius!!

The scallion kimchi completely cut through the richness, so I finished every last piece without any greasiness, cleanly and deliciously.

Is the cheese katsu side (₩3,500) worth adding?

Hunta Euljiro's cheese katsu can be added as a side for ₩3,500. I was curious about it too, so I ordered it alongside the premium loin katsu. Inside the crispy breading was a generous amount of savory, chewy mozzarella cheese, and it stretched long with the first bite. The rich savoriness of the cheese and the clean flavor of the black pork worked together perfectly — it would have been a shame not to order it as a side.
