Euljiro-ipgu tonkatsu restaurant with an in-store aging fridge: Hunta
In short
Hunta Euljiro is a tonkatsu (pork cutlet) restaurant on the ground floor of the Fastfive building in Jung-gu, Seoul, a 2-minute walk from Exit 1-1 of Euljiro-ipgu Station. On a weekday evening the writer sat at a solo bar seat for the loin & fillet katsu set and was impressed by the meat-aging fridge visible inside Hunta Euljiro and the sides of Selusal lake salt, Gaban pepper and scallion kimchi. Hunta Euljiro is a good fit for a solo meal near the station when you want to compare loin and fillet in one sitting.

Why I picked Hunta Euljiro for tonkatsu near Euljiro-ipgu Station
If you're looking for tonkatsu near Euljiro-ipgu Station, put Hunta Euljiro on your shortlist, no question! It's a 2-minute walk from the station, there's a seat even if you come alone, and the meat-aging fridge is right there in the shop, which was reassuring.
When choosing a tonkatsu place in Euljiro, I looked at three things: is it close to the station, is it comfortable for eating solo, and can I trust how they handle the meat?
Getting to Hunta Euljiro: 2 minutes from Euljiro-ipgu Station Exit 1-1
Hunta Euljiro is a 2-minute walk (190 m) from Exit 1-1 of Euljiro-ipgu Station. From City Hall Station Exit 4 it's 7 minutes, and from Jonggak Station Exit 5 it's 8 minutes on foot!
The building is Fastfive, and the shop is Unit 106 on the first floor. Being on the ground floor, it wasn't hard to find. The sign, big white letters on a black background, stands out from far away, haha.

Is Hunta Euljiro good for eating alone? Solo bar seats and tables
A long solo bar runs along the wall at Hunta Euljiro, so coming alone feels no pressure at all.

Four high stools sit side by side. You can sit in a row and eat without worrying about the person next to you. Across from the bar there are tables for 2 and 4.

It also looked fine for a lunch with a coworker or a light dinner for two. The interior was tidy: dark wood tones, white lattice walls and soft wooden lighting blend together. Large picture windows keep it from feeling stuffy.
I went on a weekday evening and there were plenty of seats. Every table and bar seat has a tablet for ordering.
The meat-aging fridge you can see inside the shop

Hunta Euljiro has a fridge for aging meat right inside the shop. Packed meat sits shelf by shelf behind a glass door lit with pink light. Since you can see it with your own eyes, you eat with peace of mind.
Selusal lake salt, Gaban pepper and scallion kimchi: the sides at Hunta Euljiro
Every table at Hunta Euljiro has a water bottle, paper cups, salt and a pepper shaker. There's also a sign titled "How to enjoy Hunta even more."

The Selusal lake salt, Gaban pepper and scallion kimchi were the fun surprises. I'd never seen a tonkatsu place name its salt and pepper separately. The salt is Selusal lake salt, served in a small portion on a plate. The pepper comes in a shaker labeled "Gaban pepper." Putting scallion kimchi (pa-kimchi) on the katsu was a new combination for me too.
Each side has its own charm, as you can see below!

In what order did I eat the sides?
- With the loin, I just lightly dipped it in Selusal lake salt. Without sauce, the meat's own flavor came through more clearly.
- With the fillet, I topped it with scallion kimchi. It felt like a palate reset, so I kept wanting the next bite.
- At the end I sprinkled on a little Gaban pepper, and it was fun that it smelled different from the salt, haha.
Hunta Euljiro menu overview
The Hunta Euljiro menu is split into katsu sets, tare katsudon (katsu rice bowl), a kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) set, and extras. If it's your first time, pick from the katsu sets, and if you're craving a rice bowl, go for the tare katsudon, right??
Loin & fillet katsu set: compare both cuts on one plate

The loin & fillet katsu set at Hunta Euljiro lets you compare loin and fillet on a single plate. On a first visit you always agonize over which cut to choose, right? This set solves that in one go.
Along with the katsu, the set comes with rice, soup, cabbage salad, kimchi and sauce on one tray. Wasabi and mustard sat on one side of the plate. The coating looked like it had real texture, and the fillet's cross-section was pale pink... insane, haha.

The loin was full of meaty aroma and rich fat, and the fillet was juicy and tender!!!! Delicious!!! Eating it over and over with the sides I described above was pure heaven... haha.
Who is Hunta Euljiro for?
